Thanks to the Members of the South Midlands Branch of the Irish Patchwork Society for welcoming Suzy O'Keefe, Head of Digital & Communications to their Sixth Annual Exhibition at St Mary's Cathedral, Kilkenny.

Dr Isha Tyagi, Head of Craft & Education, Design & Crafts Council Ireland met with makers Karen Hamilton @karenhamiltontextiles, Sarah Cathers @sarahcathersartist and Eddie Doherty @eddiejdohertygoldsmith this weekend, whose works form part of this year's August Craft Month exhibition titled "Rhythm" at the @craftnigallery in Belfast.

AD/ From locally scavenged seaweed and sunlight to making my very own felt pennant 💙

As part of August Craft Month, I joined Juliane of @felthappiness to learn how to create cyanotype prints on cotton using seaweed gathered locally. We then combined the beautiful blue fabric with cream-coloured, Irish raised wool using the Nuno felting technique to create our pennants.

Such a lovely opportunity to slow down, learn a new skill and experience the creativity of Irish craft firsthand.

With over 600 events taking place across all 32 counties, there are so many ways to get involved this August from workshops and demonstrations to exhibitions, markets and open studios.

Look at what has popped up in the Titanic Quarter! 👀

👏 to our lovely volunteer Tracy and her creative friends who have put together this vibrant post box topper to celebrate all things craft this August! Stop by if you’re in the neighbourhood and share a snap with us if you see it! 🙂

@reshare_app • @beewildflowers2024 Thank you all! I’ve been getting so much love for the postbox topper ❤️📮

I installed it to celebrate all forms of craft and the incredibly talented makers behind them. I’ve had the loveliest chats with people stopping to take photos and ask me about the postbox topper. That’s what I love about them: they’re made for the enjoyment of the community. I love how craft brings people together and creates connections within our communities.

It’s a busy month! I’m currently researching creative industries and climate action for my PhD at @ulsterbizschool If you’re a NI maker or creative business, please take part in my online survey. You can find the link in my bio. DM me if you have any queries.

I’ve also been volunteering with @craftni, who have done a fantastic job putting together this year’s @augustcraftmonth26 programme. I’ve seen first-hand just how jam-packed it is! I booked myself onto wet-felting and glass-fusing workshops to begin with. ✨

If you’re visiting @titanicbelfast, keep an eye out for the postbox topper, take a photo and share it! ❤️ 📸

Whether it is time spent with your friends, your children or your partner, we are all increasingly looking for fun, creative things to do together.

Our August Craft Month events programme provides plenty of opportunities to have memorable shared experiences this summer.

Why not?

👉 take your mum or daughter to a jewellery making class such as the Mothers & Daughters workshops run by Victoria Foutz Bijoux in Co. Mayo (August 15, 19 & 22) or Shannon McShane's full day introduction to jewellery making workshop in Co. Down (August 15)
👉 celebrate your journey with your loved one by handcrafting your own wedding rings at Benchspace in Cork (August 22)
👉 bring your favourite people along to explore the world of crochet at a workshop with Inspiring Yarns in Co. Down (August 26)
👉 take your fashion-loving friend to join fashion designer Heidi Higgins in Co. Tipperary and learn how to make your own unique clothing (August 15-16)
👉 learn the basics of woodcarving with Eoin Reardon Woodworking at St Nicholas' Collegiate Church in Co. Galway and create something unique with your partner for your home (August 17-18)
👉 enjoy a date night with a difference at Fire & Feast at Ardmore Pottery and Gallery in Co. Waterford where you will create your own pottery piece before a culinary experience with renowned chef Luis Martin (August 19)

Whether it's your partner, child, friend or anyone in your life, craft is a wonderful way to spend time with others more intentionally, create shared experiences and disconnect from screens and other distractions.

Make August your time to get creative together.
