So much excitement this weekend, but I will not let the weekend come to a close without sharing this.

My beautiful, smart niece Kaylee was crowned Miss SHS this past Friday night. I’m so proud of her.

She’s equal parts gorgeous, gracious and giddy! She’s also kind and compassionate.

What a wonderful representation for Starkville High School.

When I was the new young talent doing TV news in Columbus, MS many sweet souls became a constant source of encouragement and support. They were kinda my “Columbus Mamas.”

One of them was Irma Dickerson. I first met her at a UNCF Banquet. A striking beauty, she was dressed to the nines and had smile and aura that announced, “I’ve arrived.”

She would call and say, “Aundrea, I want you to come to_____.” (I can hear her now) If I was available I went. She invited me to church, Sim Scott Center events, and a plethora of other outings.

This image is a screenshot of one of the last messages she sent me. Sweet Ms Irma loving, supporting, and encouraging me.

I send heartfelt sympathy and many prayers to her family. I will forever remember and cherish her kindness toward me. May she rest in eternal peace.

I know she graced the gates in stunning beauty.

When my friend, Rev. Tony Montgomery Sr., called to ask me to be a part of a discussion on his newly-released book it was an easy “yes.” I relied on Rev. Montgomery a lot when I needed a source for a story or segment on matters of faith when I worked in TV news. I could always depend on him. We jive. And he always struck just the right chord.

His friend (and social media superstar!) Dr. Eric Mansfield had also recently released a book, so they decided on a joint event.

Rev. Montgomery’s honest, vulnerable account of caring for his beloved wife and Dr. Mansfield’s book of daily devotional prayers meet at the intersection of faith, encouragement and helping people navigate difficult seasons.

What a wonderful discussion we had! Thank you both for allowing me to guide the conversation. It was a whole sermon. 🙌🏾

This happened fast. Our baby is 17 today and my heart is smiling. It’s also breaking a little.

We love her sweet, gentle spirit and quiet courage.
