Mazda Fan Festa 2024

I honestly just came out to support the event and @partspro.ph today, I didn’t think I’d actually go out on track more than once to run several laps but hey I won’t say no to free track time. 😬

Like last time, the diff felt knackering but the fresh fluids for the drivetrain made things feel a bit more reassuring. I was nowhere near the limits of the car, especially with the PS4S in play… although faster corner exit speeds were much more evident - that SRS spec alignment still working its magic to make good traction.

I’m glad the weather was perfect all day, today was ripe full of opportunities to enjoy my car all the way till the drive home. Thank you for having me @mazdaphilippines!!

P.S. hope y’all are prepped for the incoming typhoon. Stay safe and dry!

CIFOS 2026

“I’m glad to see this car again”

“I’m happy to see you enjoy your car after so long”

All the hate on the internet couldn’t match the love going around all weekend. These days it’s a luxury to have friends and people who genuinely appreciate who you are and what you do. Spending time with these folks is the bigger treasure behind all these cars we get to enjoy.

Salva SPL: 11 years on the same keg still running strong

@unmarkedgarage32: Car really is built to be driven after the full rewire. 350+km of hard driving on track and AC full blast at noon on the expressway. Didn’t skip a beat all weekend.

@profabph: New PSR G35-900 turbo setup and tune running smoothly. Few small kinks to iron out on idle but otherwise we’re on the money. 1.05 A/R exhaust side next?

@simple.racing.solutions.ph: Mans be busy all weekend keeping the fastest drivers on top of their game, but the guy’s work reflects on a good number of cars on track that weekend. This FD included with the Öhlins DFV putting the power down with just the right squat on exit.

@migs_speedyfix: thanks for the quick bleed and the headlight relay fix. Brakes felt better than ever going into CIS turn 1… and I could see at night 🫣

Car’s nowhere near perfect, but it drove well and showed everyone a piece of rotary spirit during @cifosph 2026

You are Kei.

I never would have thought i’d get to drive my favorite Kei Car considering its rarity in Japan and its overall obscurity. The Autozam AZ1 M2 1015 is just a ball of joy to drive around with its gullwing doors and tiny windows. It’s as cramped as it gets inside, but you really can have dollops of fun in it at very legal speeds. The blow off valve also sounds pretty nice for a dinky little thing. We parked it next to the FD in the evening just to say i’ve put these two together.

Attended @lot90s in Clark International Speedway during the @cifosph event together with @stancepilipinasmanilafitted and surprisingly won the Legends of the 90s “Tastefully Build 90s car”.

I showcase my M2 build and added some rubber lip for the front and a modded Mazdaspeed side skirt with a Sika-Flex 201 sealant with the last minute installation.

I am really excited to install and build the fully forge 1.9L ITB engine with a matching 6 speed transmission. Hoping to finish it next year.

This collab meet with @stancepilipinasmanilafitted was something we’ve always wanted to try, thank you to @cifosph for giving us the opportunity to host a tandem event, and for always giving us a decent area to showcase all that is good about Philippine automotive culture.

Mazda Fan Festa 2026

Our short trip to Japan happened to line up with this staple event, so a few weeks back I buzzed @tan.rambut about getting tickets just to be able to witness some rotaries and the car we consider our king… again. Not only did he oblige, Steven did more than just “get us tickets”

This time around we were treated to the full Fan Festa experience. Alongside a few good friends from media and the local community, we had the chance to have an up-close-and-personal experience of not just THE #55 RENOWN 787B, but also two other race-campaigned 787Bs (#18 Mazdaspeed, and the #202 RENOWN inverted scheme). Being able to bask in the aura of storied rotary vehicles on the pits as well as up close on the grid is a surreal feeling, let alone being able to share the experience with a few close friends and my wife.

It was my first time seeing a couple historic rotary machines as well. Of note is the #202 767 (glad to see it fixed after that shunt in Goodwood years back), the 792P that would have succeeded the 787B, several RX-3s and SA22Cs that caused their own racket, and a Super Taikyu FD3S dressed in period C-West Aero.

You guys have no idea how it feels to be at home in a place like this, especially when we’re a bit short-handed with rotaries back in Manila. Thank you for bringing me “home” in that sense. This one is surely for the books.

It’s getting harder and harder to find time to drive this thing. It’s no longer a walk downstairs and fire the car up affair to get into the RX7 experience, what with us living halfway across town from where it’s parked. I have to make time and make the most out of it when I get the chance. Time really is the most expensive currency.

Despite the car being far from perfect, I really did enjoy the short hour I had with it. The new turbo and wastegate setup is giving new sounds to be familiar with when you’re on full tilt, but it’s loud and rowdy all the same once the EWG is open. I missed seeing flashes of orange light in my rear view mirror when I let off the throttle, can only imagine how big the backfire is from outside.

Really not funny how good this thing is at making me feel alive behind the wheel, the drive back home in the GRY felt clinical in comparison. Here’s to more nights behind the wheel 🍻🍙🍙
