Solo drive up just to see where we’re at following the ECUTEK tune. Third gear is absolutely monstrous now, I don’t think i’ll need more than what this is making already. Fourth would be boldly irresponsible around these parts especially with all the traffic even at night. I’m feeling like PS4S is reaching its limit, and the car is now asking for 200TW. Guess that’s next in due time. by @gaur_four

Found time to have the GRY serviced and install a couple parts.

Scara73 Brake Duct - fitment is very nice save for the fact that it didn’t come with longer screws. That said, car has no rub even with these fitted. Not sure just how functional this will be considering there’s a dust shield blocking the rotor. Still beats having the stock duct pointing towards the tire I guess 🤷‍♂️

OEM Gen 2 RZ/GRC Morizo Red Belts - fancy red belt that works with OEM level of safety. First time changing belt colors on a car. Long-overdue Christmas present labyu @niceenvoltoriogo 😘

Thanks for the seamless installation @migs_speedyfix!

The big bit that couldn’t be seen however is the fact that the car’s actually been on an ECUTEK tune the past couple months. I haven’t posted much about it since we haven’t put it on the dyno yet. We decided to focus more on street tuning and making sure transient throttle response would be on point. Third and fourth will take getting used to, and the car feels like it’s asking for grippier tires. Looks like we have to bump up to 200tw eventually. Big ups to my secret taoke tuner for taking care of the car while I was away 👀 by @gaur_four

The past few years, my trips to Japan early in the year have always been a boon for GRY parts. I’ve always found myself bringing something home for it since parts are readily available for a car as new as this. I’m capitalizing on the opportunity while parts are everywhere because I know full well the pain of having to source parts for an older car. I may as well enjoy the perks of modifying a new one 🤷‍♂️

This year’s trip yielded an HKS R-Type Intercooler and a GR Parts Steering Wheel and Side Brake set. While the intercooler does next to nothing now, I’ve decided to pull the trigger on it to make the most out of the next steps I have planned for this car. Also I stenciled it green just to hark back to the old retro HKS styling (and to remind me of the other green thing that needs driving)

Thanks as usual to @migs_speedyfix for the quick install of the parts!

I’ve also added a couple more touge stickers to further round out the cool places i’ve driven abroad. There’s plenty more passes around Japan i’m keen to hit up. Looking forward to collecting more memorabilia to fill the quarter glass 👀 by @gaur_four

Snaps from yesterday’s livestream. Glad they caught my car taking corner past Acacia towards Big Loop, it’s a set of corners where you can really get a look at the car’s dynamics properly, not to mention the varying approaches to set the car up for corner exit. Considering its proximity to the viewing areas and the complexity of the corners itself, there is plenty to learn just by watching cars attack this section. by @gaur_four

Got to clock a few laps yesterday to see how the vital numbers stack while the car is performing at full tilt.

- Oil temps are rock solid throughout peaking at 111C despite hot ambient track temps (~35C) @ravenolmotorolph REP 5w-30 putting in work 💪🏻

- Coolant temp touches above 100C, but immediately goes down upon cooldown. GRYs tend to go over 100C with the stock cooling setup looks like, but it otherwise works perfectly.

- Intake air temps were around ~40C at speed which seems normal

- Rear diff temperature didn’t reach 90C - wouldn’t expect it to with just 3 hot laps out.

Tried keeping up with @frnzptrck following his retune, but i’ll need proper 200tw tires just to get close to his braking points and corner exits, not to mention the gap in horsepower on the straights. I may have overdriven the PS4S yesterday considering they were just ploughing everywhere, it seems I didn’t drop tire pressures enough, or it was just that hot out.

Wasn’t keeping time, but i’m sure those laps were easy 2’17s which is a couple seconds off my PB. Worth considering getting a 200tw track set to get more time out of the car at this point 🤔 still, I learned a lot from yesterday’s outing. Great feeling to share the track with friends and share good company all day! by @gaur_four

Got the chance to stress-test the GRY today. Few details to add to the data on the screen:

~50km mixed uphill course
30-32c Ambient Air Temp
Sport (30:70)
TC Off (Expert Mode Off)
Majority 2nd-3rd gear

Mighty impressed with the oil temp management considering the length of the route. Playing around 98C to 102C but it didn’t get any higher than that. @ravenolmotorolph REP 5w-30 putting in work, I know it’s helping bring down oil temps but it’s nice to finally quantify by how much.

I made sure to try the car out in Sport to load up the rear diff and see how high the temps will go. 83.5C seems up there, but I don’t have a good reference of how high it can really get. Will need 200tw and some laps on track to see how far this’ll go, but so far nothing wrong.

First time looking at a set of gauges and expecting everything to just… work. Is this what suffercar therapy feels like??

Got to put the PS4S through its paces as well. It’s definitely grippier than the SC6, but the vagueness at dead center feels more evident (maybe because of the taller sidewall?). The car rotates less, which is something I miss from the 235/40 setup, but the limit of adhesion is definitely higher than the previous set. That said, this current tire setup otherwise ticks all the boxes for performance and aesthetics.

Always a good time getting out there and enjoying good cars with great company. Thanks for the drive! by @gaur_four

Jetlag Unga Bunga:

@gr_d4sh OBD display for the EU/international spec Head Unit of the GRY. I can now keep an eye on some very vital data when i’m putting the car through its paces. Not sure if this’ll run on the local head units but it appears compatible with anything that can properly run Apple CarPlay.

Straightforward installation thanks to some very helpful YouTube videos. The hard part is mostly figuring out which way the panels around the shifter console pull out and getting your fingers underneath the 12V socket to plug the kit. Otherwise this is all literally plug and play to the GRY’s power sockets.

Gone are the days of Defi Gauges when you’ve got something like this that reads straight outta the OBD. Can’t wait to try this out over the weekend! by @gaur_four

At the end of the day, we go back to @michelinpilotsport4s 🤷‍♂️

The local compound of the GY Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 does not compete head to head with the 4S unlike the ones in EU, so I made a booboo with that tire choice. It’s otherwise a good option if you’re looking for an affordable alternative vs Pilot Sport 5 or FK520 (my slightly used 235/40/18 set is for sale btw). Which brings me to this set: Michelin PS4S in 245/40/18

There is no doubt that the 4S is a highly capable tire in its segment, such that it has always been in the conversation against its predecessors and even well towards newer tires in the UHP Summer Tire segment. Not to mention, this tire is OE for the RZ/Circuit Pack anyway.

The 245/40 fitted onto an 8.5 width wheel gives all that chunk. This further brings out the GRY’s taut bulldog stance with the squared corners of the tire due to the the stiff, more pronounced sidewall. Fitment is spot-on apart from a bit of rubbing at the rear, nothing a bit of camber can’t fix. I get the plus of gaining a few mm of ride height even if the fender gap is smaller too.

P.S. ya boy @ivanbchan can hook you up with the Michelin goods. Hit him up if you need a set! by @gaur_four

Did a couple of small things to the car over the weekend. Trying out the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 since it’s been tauted as a PS4S competitor overseas. I think the compound locally is different, it’s closer to PS5/FK520 in terms of overall grip based on first impressions… but these tires are new, may need a few kms to scrub to bring the best out of it. I will say though, these are definitely better than the Michelin PS5 in terms of braking.

Also got the @bfmperformance Cooling Hole c/o @theonlykuyakiks. Easy 5-minute job since it’s just a couple small panels. I have no way of quantifying the reduction in engine room temps, but based on experience with the RX7 any form of heat extraction is a net positive. Plus it’s seamless and clean, function AND form parts are always a big ✅ in my book. by @gaur_four

If you couldn’t tell by the front wheel caked in brake dust, we did a helluva drive today. ~480km of driving in one day can be tiring if half of that is on twisties.

The route we ran put the GR Yaris through the wringer, and I’m further convinced that the current setting of the car is optimal for aggressive street use. While the next logical step would be adding power and bumping up the torque curve, I think i’m not yet fully used to the added power that the downpipe is making. This drive helped me become more comfortable with the power, but I still find myself letting off the throttle early. Need more seat time, that’s for sure.

That said, the suspension, brakes, and tactile pieces performed at a level that I am happy with. Thanks for inviting me on this drive @ivanbchan @drivennotstored! by @gaur_four
