THE DETAILS

The Football Australia logo is heat transferred onto the chest, opposite and embroidered Nike swoosh.

On the centre of the front of the shirt, the Subway logo features in its corporate colours, which are conveniently green and gold. The standard Coles sponsor is also pressed onto both sleeves in white.

The printing on the back gives this shirt its importance. The 38 and name Tombides, honouring the late Dylan, who represented Australia at U17 and U22 tournaments before his tragic passing at 20 years of age in 2014. The style of the nameset is matching that used on the away kits at the time.

The lower back features the logo of the DT38 Foundation, named in his honour and leaving a legacy of education and awareness of testicular cancer, especially in young people.

Below that there is a heat transfer of #awarenessdownunder with one of the Ws stylised to resemble a pair of testicles.

RIP Dylan.

THE PLAYER & THE MATCH

Australia 5:0 Palestine
11 June 2024
AFC 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers
Second Round - Group I
HBF Park, Perth, Australia

This match completed a strong second round of 2026 World Cup qualifying for the Socceroos, who won all 6 matches, scoring 22 goals and without conceding any.

The shirt shown was worn in the warmup as a tribute to Dylan Tombides, a talented Australian footballer who passed away in 2014 at 20 years of age after a battle with testicular cancer.

Dylan was diagnosed shortly after representing the green and gold at the 2011 FIFA U17 World Cup in Mexico. After treatment, he was cleared and returned to football, remarkably making his senior debut for West Ham United in the League Cup in September 2012.

Late in 2012, he would need further treatment and after chemotherapy even incredibly played 3 matches for Australia in the 2014 AFC U22 Asian Cup.
Tragically, after the tournament he was informed that his condition had become incurable.

Dylan passed away on 14 April 2014.

After his passing, West Ham retired his number 38 shirt, an honour otherwise only afforded the legendary Bobby Moore.

Each Socceroo wore one of these shirts prematch against Palestine and also their match kits had a small DT38 logo on the inside of the collar.

His family continue his legacy via the DT38 Foundation aiming to educate and raise awareness of testicular cancer, especially in young people.

RIP Dylan.

THE DETAILS

The Australian Coat of Arms is a thin rubber transfer on the chest with the match details text a separate heat transfer underneath.

The number style is the standard used by Nike teams in the current era, with the Football Australia logo used at the base of the larger back numbers.

As is standard from this campaign the 2026 FIFA World Cup patch sits on one sleeve while FIFA's own slogan 'Football Unites the World' features on the opposite sleeve.

The only other extra embellishment is the golden Federation Star of Australia which sits atop the green rib panel on the back of the neck.

The shirt has a complex woven mesh throughout to increase comfort and breathability, which Nike refers to as DRI-FIT ADV technology and use across all major teams' player shirts. The shirts worn by the players are also made from 100% recycled plastic packaging.

THE SHIRT

2022-24 Home Shirt from the AFC 2026 World Cup Qualifier against Saudi Arabia at AAMI Park in Melbourne.

This shirt was issued to Kusini Yengi who came on in the 90th minute with Australia searching for a goal to break the stalemate.

The shirt was launched for the 2022 Men's world cup uniquely for the Socceroos and male Australian national youth teams. It also featured in the 2023 Asian Cup which was also hosted by Qatar.

According to Nike, the design is inspired by the Socceroos' history, with a reference to the 2006 kit, with 2 shaded patterns inspired by the Golden Wattle. One pattern is only used on the sleeve/shoulder panels and the other on the front and back of the torso.

Apparently, the colours capture the 'adventurous nature of Australians and the physical beauty of the land'.

THE PLAYER & THE MATCH

Australia 0:0 Saudi Arabia
14 November 2024
AFC 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers
Third Round - Group C
AAMI Park, Melbourne, Australia

The Socceroos marked the halfway point of this qualifying campaign with a stalemate against fellow 2nd placs contenders, Saudi Arabia.

Kusini Yengi came on as a substitute in the 90th minute and was unable to break the deadlock.

After his debut in 2003 and appearance in the Asian Cup, Yengi amassed 11 caps and impressively 6 goals along the way. At the time of writing , the 27 year old Yengi had not been capped by the Socceroos since 2024.

Kusini's younger brother, Tete, is also a Socceroo.
Tete's 2026 debut confirming the Yengis as the Socceroos' 8th set of bothers to wear the green and gold.

THE DETAILS

The Australian Coat of Arms is transferred on to the center of the chest as well as some unique text also transferred below it. Firstly, Soccer Australia had been abandoned so this has the text, Australian Soccer Association, which was short-lived, eventually become the Football Federation Australia. Further, this has the match details of two matches printed on it, both being against Turkiye, 3 days apart in both Sydney and Melbourne.

The shirt itself, part of the famous Total 90 Nike range, is the version before the players kits were super light fabrics and welded seams all over. There is the usual contrast piping, and contrast panel across the back shoulder area where the names would go, but then, there were no names on the Australian shirts worn in this series. The surrounding panels on the sides and lower parts of the front and back are mesh and there is also a signature contrast spike on the left sleeve.

THE SHIRT

This kit was worn for both matches in a 2004 home series against Turkiye, confirmed by the double dates and cities named on the match details under the coat of arms.

While it was never officially named as either, it was worn as a home kit in these matches and as an away kit in the 2004 OFC Nations Cup in Adelaide which followed. Conveniently this colourway aligned with what the Olyroos (U23s) would wear at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

The design was part of the Nike Total 90 template which was universally used by Nike's federations and clubs worldwide throughout this era. The Australian variations in this design would tally up to 6 as the kit made famous in 2005 against Uruguay would be settled on as our home kit.

This shirt was worn by Massimiliano (Max) Vieri on his Socceroos debut, off the bench in the first match of the series in Sydney.

THE PLAYER AND THE MATCHES

Australia 1:3 Turkiye
21 May 2004
Friendly Match
Sydney Football Stadium, Sydney, Australia

Australia 0:1 Turkiye
24 May 2004
Friendly Match
Docklands Stadium, Melbourne, Australia

This two match series against Turkiye brought the Socceroos back to play in Australia for the first time in 2.5 years. It was also the first time that the side wore a Nike kit in our national colours, having only previously worn a navy blue Nike kit against South Africa in London.

This particular shirt was worn by Massimiliano (Max) Vieri who debuted off the bench for Australia in the first match in Sydney, where he was born and had grown up until he relocated to Italy with his family as an adult.

Following this series, Max appeared in 3 matches of the 2004 OFC Nations Cup and then gained one further cap in 2005 to take his tally to 6. Unfortunately he was unable to get on the scoresheet in his short national team career.

THE DETAILS

The Australian Coat of Arms is a badge made from raised silicone on the chest as is the outer pride 'Australia' text on the back collar.

The match details and tournament patches are heat pressed under the crest and on the sleeves respectively.

The pattern representing the Wave Rock is sublimated over on the front panel while the back is a total navy blue (officially Obsidian) panel.

The name and number style is a style featuring a textured gold edge within the number as well as a Football Federation Australia logo at the bottom.

The stripes down the sides are reveal a secondary colour when stretched. In this case it is usually navy blue but when stretched reveals a touch of yellow.

THE SHIRT

2016-18 away shirt as worn by all Australian National Football Teams during this period.
This was the only match in which the Socceroos would wear this particular kit.

This design featured a tonal diagonal stripe print representing the pattern of the famous Western Australian Wave Rock.

This shirt was worn by Bailey Wright in the final group stage match of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup against Chile. by @aussiekits

THE PLAYER & THE MATCH

Chile 1:1 Australia
25 June 2017
2017 FIFA Confederations Cup
Group Stage
Otkritie Arena, Moscow, Russia

This match was the only time this away shirt was worn by the Socceroos. All other matches in this period featured our men's side in the home kit, a gold version of the same design.

To progress from the group Australia needed to win against Chile but we're unable to get ahead of the South American side needing only a draw to proceed.

Elimination meant that this shirt was worn in Australia's very last match at a FIFA Confederations Cup, with the tournament scrapped after the 2017 edition.

Having played the full 90 minutes of the first 2 group matches, Bailey Wright was brought on as Ange Postecoglou's final substitution of this match.

Wright had a Socceroos career of 29 caps and two goals, one of which came on debut.

Aside from the 2017 Confederations Cup, Wright was an unused member of the 2014 World Cup squad and played his maiden World Cup match in Qatar in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
