Here’s something I am absolutely elated to tell y’all about! This fall & winter I will be in Little Shop of Horrors at Portland Center Stage, as the Puppeteer for The Plant (Audrey Two) who will be voiced by the incredible LaRhonda Steele!! (And you may see and hear me in the ensemble too ;)
🪴
I am so excited about this team and this cast and this theater, and this is a major one for me- I’ve loved Little Shop since I was in high school and would drive around with @_challahgram absolutely BLASTING Skid Row on repeat from a CD I had burned 😂 I was in the show in college and have auditioned for it at theaters across america, and now here I am returning to my puppeteering roots!! (shoutout to Puppeteers For Fears) @puppeteersforfears

Here I am at on Sunday singing one of my favorite torch songs, The Man That Got Away! I may end up posting this whole song but for now here’s about a minute of it! 🎙️
It was so wonderful to be back at Piano Bar! Hosted by the incredible @courtneyjoyfreed and @david_saffert_piano (who is playing so gorgeously here) and as always, recorded by @kyclarkejowen!
🎙️
This song was of course made famous by my favorite Judy Garland, but there are wonderful covers by so many singers I adore (like Rufus Wainwright, Ella Fitzgerald, Audra McDonald, Billy Porter, Linda Eder, Barbra Streisand, Patti LuPone, Kristin Chenoweth) but I mostly recommend that you go look up the version sung by Megan Mullally in character as Karen Walker on Will & Grace
🍸
Oh also the theme this month was Dolly Parton and Tim Curry so I’m dressed for them (you can quite see the 5.5” boots)- have I mentioned enough icons? 😂

It’s closing night of Angels in America Part One: Millennium Approaches at @thegreenhousecabaret!! So of course one more gorgeous production photo. I always have too many feelings to put in words for the closing of shows, and this one especially- I’m gonna miss it and I’m so grateful for our cast and our team and for Prior.

I wanted to share this part of one of our gorgeous little trailers that @threepines.collective made for @thegreenhousecabaret as we head into our second-to-last show of Angels in America tonight!
🌿
This was my response to the question “what do you hope people take away from seeing this show” (asked during our photoshoot before we began rehearsals- and I still feel this way) If I can be scorchingly earnest (as I occasionally am like to do) this has been a helpful hope for hope of mine for a long time (my blue lantern’s light, as @samuellwick would call it). I don’t know that things always get better and sometimes they get worse but they do change- you don’t know what’s coming, so look up! Look UP!
🌿
Ooh and I’m wearing a costume by @doraleanova here!

I’ve been seeing and hearing a lot about Moulin Rouge in the media I consume lately (cause people are talking about Nicole Kidman as they should, and the Broadway Production is closing) and I remembered I have sung track 13 from the movie soundtrack, the gorgeous Rufus Wainwright cover of the French love song “Complainte De La Butte”!
💃🏼
I initially learned this when @courtneyjoyfreed hired me to sing at a Moulin Rouge themed Christmas party at a country club, and then I sang it again at my first time performing at @thegreenhousecabaret last year!
🥖
Singing this is the most I use the 5 years of French I took (trying to do my beloved high school French teacher Madame Eichten proud- she was incredible and is friends with my mom now lol! My two college French teachers were not as beloved and insisted on calling me “Austín” instead of my French name, PASCAL!
