Happy to announce that I’ve had some work done. How do I look?

April fools!

These are some images from my 60th birhtday party where the unbelievable @austincomfort surprised me by showing up as “drag doreen!”

Y’all…this was, perhaps, the most meaningful gift I’ve received in a very long time! I’ve known Austin since he was in high school and have witnessed his brilliance in so many spaces…theatrical ones, musical ones, relational ones, and more.

Austin’s talent is boundless and, what’s really remarkable is, so is his heart! I witness him honoring composers, friends, communities, and the vulnerable among us all the time. To have him honor me in this way (I always said I wanted to be present for his first time out in drag and this was it) is a profound honor.

Since my party Austin has introduced the world to @cora.justcora who is the queen we all need!

As a delayed birthday gift, might you all hop over and follow Cora (and hire her for all the drag events you dream of hosting…brunch, bingo, story time)!

It is my sincere belief that drag saves lives, offering the kind of joy and empowerment that other art forms and communities dream of embodying. Austin/Cora, thanks for what I know will be wild amounts of joy and positivity that you will offer the world in this new way! I ABSOLUTELY ADORE YOU AND CHERISH OUR CONNECTION!

If you’ve been following along for a while you’ll know and have seen that I’ve been dabbling in drag for manymany years- but now it finally has a name and an Instagram! This will also be a perfect place for EL CHUPACORAZÓN to live, now that hashtags aren’t a good way to find her! And what’s that? Valentines is just around the corner… 👹

Here’s something that’s fun! Tomorrow @thebendcentraldistrict is having a block party, and my new haircut and I get to sing as @austincomfort in the afternoon, and then my wig and I get to sing as @cora.justcora in the evening! I’ll be there on behalf of the @thegreenhousecabaret and @somewhere_thats_green!
There’s gonna be so many fabulous performers and artists and artisans, weather be damned!
(Feels wild to post this in the middle of the night but I’ve been having a wild last few days that warrants it 😂)

At the urging of @sheacoulee I of course bought a couple sensational 90s flip wigs, and in this color I ended up looking like a cross between Catherine O’Hara as Kate McCallister (Kevin’s mom from Home Alone) and Gillian Anderson as Agent Scully from The X Files! 😂
