October & November will always remain a special stretch of musky season and overtime learning it better, it’s become one of my favorite seasons to chase clear water Muskies! What all of these fish have in common… they’re big, beautiful, and seem to come around as the colors begin to change.
This fall timeframe has continued to grow on me as you see little to no recreational traffic, potentially bad weather that eliminates about half of the fair weather fisherman, and some of the lakes largest muskies who find themselves back on predictable structures. Fall is where I preach the utmost simplicity with a focus on the small things that can make a huge difference.
I’ve got a good number of open dates left for this fall and some BIG goals for what we have left.. hoping to make it bigger and better than last fall… If you’re interested in booking a day and wanting to learn some of the fall musky patterns we have left (pre turnover, turnover, post turnover and late fall) give me a call or text at (815)575-3468 or shoot me a message on socials!

The goodbye to MN gets harder every year and this year was no exception!
This year started off with having two of my favorite people in the boat Stu & Seabass. You may recognize them from past years posts as they always seem to bring a hot hand when they get in my boat.
This years trip started off slower than most with a personal limited time on the water prior to their trip but as they day progressed we got things dialed in. We had talked throughout the day about our past 8 fish day together and with low activity we all were in the mindset of, “it’s fine if we don’t catch 8 this year but it feels like one of those days we boat a real big one”.. and that we did!
Stu had this fish up on a Hunsy off a perfect deep cabbage point that went around a turn and a half and pulled off. SeaBass after retying his leader on stood up with the hot bait of the trip & fired a cast back towards where she left at. She came slinking in behind his bait and first turn, SeaBass did everything perfectly to keep this giant 51 Incher hooked and straight in the bag! A new PB and another incredible story to go along with these guys!
They capped things off with another high quality mid 40” at sunset and just all around was a phenomenal start to my MN guide stretch!
I can’t speak more highly of these two, all around great guys and I can say friends now. We had plans to shoot some drone footage this day of some WAV stuff but they made a trip back out to the lake on my only available day to help film which was awesome, and inbetween doing so, we happened to dump another 4 footer and have shots at another few fish of that size range!

**Minnesota Open August/September Guide Dates in Post**
Hot water has me thinking ahead to my favorite guide stretch of the season my late summer NW Minnesota Guiding.
I’ve got a handful of days still available following the Full Moon of August and days leading into New Moon of September. This is a fun time of year with lots of fast paced shallow water fishing and some incredible big fish opportunities!
Dates still available to book are August 21, 22, 23 and September 1-9th in the Detroit Lakes Minnesota area.
This time of year with weather patterns shifting from the stagnant state of summer to the start of fall creates a lot of fish movement within the system. New fish showing up on predictable spots daily and an awesome opportunity to be the first one to get a bait in front of them.
Pictured are a handful of the fish we’ve boated from the last couple years and with the track record of boating 50+ inch fish every year out there, this timeframe is a hard one to beat!

Open Guide Dates End of Post**
One thing I find myself repeating every year—whether in the boat or at seminars—is the importance of mastering the basics, especially the boatside figure 8. It sounds simple, but I’m convinced most anglers would double their catch numbers if they focused on their boatside mechanics.
I’ve shared Andrew’s progression as a musky angler before, particularly his figure 8 skills, and this trip was another perfect example. We were fishing IL in late May with the post spawn shallow and suspend patterns set in place and a nasty algae bloom. After moving only one lazy shallow fish early, we switched gears and focused on ripping jerkbaits and rubber over deeper basin fish. In the low-visibility conditions, keeping baits in the right depth zone and working them with shorter, more aggressive snaps, focusing on the addition of a few prolonged pauses, gave fish more time to track them down.
The retrieve details mattered!!! But the biggest key was the boatside work. With poor visibility, neither the bait nor the fish could be seen consistently during the transition into the figure 8. Having the fundamentals and basics of the technique and transition boatside, allowed us to capitalize when opportunities appeared.
In a short window, we went 4-for-4 on fish that showed up hot and seemingly out of nowhere, every one of them caught on the figure 8. Speed changes, depth changes, and long pauses on the corners made these fish come unglued and well the result was four quality muskies in the net, ranging from low-40s to upper-40s, including Andrew’s new personal best!
I am now fully transitioned onto Lake Geneva in Southern WI for the remainder of this years guiding. We’ve already been busy putting fish in the net on Geneva which is exactly the opposite of the chain, the clearest lake I’ve ever fished Muskies. If you’re interested in learning the clear water musky game, below are my open dates before I travel to Minnesota for my late summer guide stretch (Detroit Lakes Area: August 18- September 12) I still have days available in MN as well as Fall back on Geneva!

**Open Guide Dates in Post**
Southern Wisconsin Musky Opener is one sleep away and with the unfortunate circumstances here in Northern Illinois with the Fox Chain being shut down for most of April due to flooding (still fully closed with the hopes of reopening to no wake in the next few days) I’m beyond ready to get back to work!
Below are my open guide dates for the next two months for Muskies in Northern IL (When the Chain Opens) and Southern Wisconsin (Geneva). May is one of the best months for Muskies in Northern Illinois as last years bite was incredible out of my boat and with another full year under my belt chasing Muskies on Geneva I’m sure looking forward to what ends up finding its way into the net for pictures this year for the 2026 season! More of fish this quality is the plan!

JUNE:

Wishing everyone a happy Easter and hopefully you’re able to spend it with family and friends as I am. April is underway and I’m back in Northern Illinois after an awesome time down south which I’ll save for another post later this week, but I’ve got a handful of dates left available for you to get in on for some prespawn Muskies on the Fox Chain this April.
