THIS WEEK | REINA TAKEUCHI

“Somatic” comes from the Greek word soma, meaning: the body as a living organism. Defined by Thomas Hanna, somatic practice is “the experience within and of the body from a first-person perspective”. Through somatic practice we are able to shift focus from external performance driven movement, to our internal physical worlds.

This Saturday the 17th of October, join the wonderful independent dance artist and practitioner, Reina Takeuchi, as she shares with us her personal somatic methodologies. Encouraging participants to discover a moment of presence and intuitively connect to self through movement, this class welcomes ALL levels of ability.

We can’t wait to see you at our Coalcliff studio.

Since her time with AUSTI Natalie has been offered a diverse range of professional performing, teaching and choreographic opportunities.

“I feel incredibly grateful to have stepped into such a diverse range of creative spaces where I have been continually challenged to adapt and embrace new ways of thinking. Working across different environments and disciplines, alongside diverse collaborators and people, continues to offer me new perspectives that shape me as an artist and educator every day. These experiences have reinforced just how much I value this work and the impact it brings to the broader community.”

Your care, commitment and invaluable contribution have played an important part in AUSTI.’s journey, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you have brought to our organisation and artistic community.

We wish you every success in your next chapter and look forward to continuing to cheer you on from the sidelines.

As Sarah moves on, we are delighted to welcome Amber McCartney to the AUSTI. team as our new Personal Assistant and Assisting Producer.

SATELLITE SANCTUARY: Meet the Residents

We are thrilled to announce our successful 2026/27 Satellite Sanctuary Space Residents.

This inaugural round attracted interest from a nationwide pool of emerging to mid-career artists, each seeking dedicated space and time to develop their creative practice.

Selected by a dedicated panel of valued AUSTI Board Members - Ruth Osborne, Rhiannon Newton and Tim Farrar - we are delighted to announce their unanimous selection of Hannah Brookes & Frances Orlina, and Rikia Bell as the recipients of our inaugural Satellite Sanctuary Space Residencies.

The Satellite Sanctuary Space Residency is designed to nurture artistic practice, choreographic research, and creative development for emerging to mid-career artists. Recognising that every creative practice is unique, the residency provides flexibility, time and dedicated studio space needed to support artists at different stages of their practice.

A public sharing of their work will take place at the conclusion of each residency, inviting audiences into the artists’ creative processes and providing an opportunity for conversation, reflection and feedback.
