How it started… Our wedding day, October 10, 2016.

How it’s going… Winging our way to France October 9-10, 2026, to celebrate the 10 most beautiful years imaginable. A 30-hour anniversary, courtesy of a six-hour time difference! Genius!

Cheryl Lee Pletcher, I said it then, and I’ll keep saying it every day for the rest of our lives: You are the great love of my life, my best friend, my lover, my partner in all things, and every hope and dream I ever had. THANK YOU for asking…and thank you for every amazing day since.

Happy anniversary, Darling. It was an epic dinner, but the priceless part was getting to share it with you. 💘💍❤️‍🔥💋

P.S. First course: Slow-cooked egg with cauliflower mousseline “JC David” haddock shavings, golden toasted brioche bread; Second course: Pan-seared sea bream fillet, lemon and seaweed condiment and Sautéed vegetables from our market gardeners; Dessert: Rum baba with Madagascar vanilla whipped cream and a special birthday/anniversary surprise at the end. by @authorlynnames

It’s Friday! Hooray! How’s your week going? Up here on the mountain, we’re bearly getting by (Bad pun, I know. I’ll be playing here all day—or the bears will…

The text was sent by our closest neighbor yesterday, which was trash day. And yes, one of those two bears did manage to tip the can over and drag one of the trash bags out and down into the woods. He was not the least bit deterred by Cheryl and I encouraging him to move along in no uncertain terms. We had to wait for him to leave before foraging for the trash and getting it back into the can.

He and his partner in crime are NOT the same bears as the Mama and three cubs (Mama Daphne and her progeny, Huey, Dewey, and Lewey) playing in the street around the corner from our house this morning.

It’s their world. We just live in it.

These handsome, majestic dudes showed up in our backyard at dusk tonight. Our golden boy, Sawyer, wanted to know why he wasn’t invited to the party. I told him he’d have to glue on antlers to fit in. Last I saw, he was shopping online. 🤣🤓🤪 by @authorlynnames

On this date in history...in a place far, far...er...fifteen feet from where I’m sitting right now...this extraordinary, remarkable, beautiful woman asked me to marry her. On. Graph. Paper. In the exact spot on the open-air subfloor of the house-that-is-now-our-home where our bed sits. How can one say “no” to that???

Happy Proposal Day, Cheryl Lee Pletcher. You’re every wish, every hope, every dream, and every prayer answered. Thank you for asking, and especially for spelling it out for dense little old me so that I could easily understand the question. LOL.

The situation in our backyard earlier this afternoon. This mama and her three cubs are here so often we’ve named them. Mama is Daphne. The cubs are Huey, Dewey, and Louie.

Remarkably, a few minutes after I filmed this, when the family was done playing around, mama and cubs wandered down a little farther in the yard, found some nice shade, and all promptly plopped themselves down for an hour-long snooze. It was the most adorable thing ever.

Every day, I awake with one intention: To be the very best version of myself I can be.

In this perilous moment for our country, our democracy, our present, and our future, we all need to use our superpowers for good. For me, this means asking myself on a regular basis what I can personally be doing right now to make a difference.

My superpower is my voice. It’s my ability to use my knowledge and experience gained over decades as a broadcast journalist, a political/governmental strategist, and an author, that helps me to synthesize the current situation, analyze the media and political landscape, and share cogent thoughts with all of you.

That’s what I’ve aimed to do with this video. I’ve been studying with, listening to, and learning from selected trusted voices and thinkers whose words and viewpoints are critical to our understanding and our actions. I offer their expertise and best advice to you in the form of recent books they’ve written.

I hope you find these suggestions useful. As always, have faith and stand in your own power. Together, we’ve got this.

My wife, Cheryl, and I were thrilled to have a chance this evening to meet and chat with the next U.S. Senator from North Carolina, the great former Governor, Roy Cooper (@roycoopernc & @teamcoopernc).

Here is a TRUE public servant—a guy who has always put people in front of politics and in front of party. Roy Cooper is as honorable and ethical as it gets. He’s also a candidate that understands the assignment: Get to Washington; get a pro-democracy-controlled U.S. Senate to stand back up and find its spine; make stuff cost less for all Americans; stand up for our democracy and the rule of law; get dark money out of politics; and restore guardrails and accountability to our government.

It was an honor and a pleasure to meet you, Governor. Can’t WAIT to celebrate your election to the U.S. Senate from the great state of North Carolina. by @authorlynnames
