Happy first day of autumn! 🍂 In light of this special day, here is a little about me, Autumn.I’m a bit scared to share this post if I’m being completely honest. I don’t know if anyone will even read it or care, but it was quite therapeutic for me to make. It took… significantly longer than I’d like to admit to hand write every slide 😅 but I wanted to make sure you know that I in fact mean what’s written.I haven’t been as open online over the past few years and I want to change that. Scrolling social media tricks us into believing that we’re still interacting with others, but more often than not it’s left me feeling very alone. I crave authentic connection, not likes.I want to know more about the people and artists I follow too, so I created this post as a way for anyone new to my page to get to know me a little better as they’re taking a peek at my work. We’ve been having a blast on our Arches & Canyonlands National Parks workshop this week! Happy Moonday! 🌙 Almost two weeks of traveling and capturing in Namibia for season two of me and @nateinthewild’s nature photography series with @bhphoto and @sonyalpha has blown my mind. Twilight colors seem to last an eternity here and are the most spectacular gradient I have ever seen 🤯As we arrived at a new lodge for a few nights, I made a mental note of wanting to photograph this tree in some way. The Milky Way wasn’t going to align, star trails weren’t going to work, I thought the moon phase would be too dim to see, and the sun went down too far to the left.I had kind of resigned myself to not shooting it, but the next night when we arrived back at our lodge after a long day of shooting, I saw my favorite moon phase nestled right in this tree—not too dim at all (and with brilliant earthshine). In fact, I was shocked at how visible a 3% full moon was down here! I squealed, dashed out of the vehicle, and threw my backpack down to get my camera out as fast as I could. Maybe it’s just my affinity for looking up, but the moon always seems to have a way of being right where I need it.I cannot wait to share all of the magical sights that we’ve seen on this adventure, so stay tuned!Special shoutout to the amazing team: @sandovil_ @happy_tr33s @shotbymariaperez 🧡 by @autpops

Ok who wants to go hang out in the best national park?? Join @nateinthewild and me in Mount Rainier National Park this September for our astro and landscape photography workshop! ✨This place leaves me speechless every time I try to talk about it, but I’ll give it a go… Whew, this park means a great deal to me for several reasons, but it’s such an integral part of how I got my start into nature photography. My first solo hike was here, I shot my first Milky Way photos here, I even took my first landscape photos here, and not a day goes by that I don’t wish that I could be here gazing up at Tahoma (Mt. Rainier). It has such a hold on me that I even named one of my cats after it (swipe for cat tax). I cannot wait to go back and feel that warm, fuzzy feeling like I’ve come home.If you want to get the lowdown on some of the most photogenic spots in Washington, work on your astrophotography, learn our editing workflows, meet fellow enthusiastic photographers, maybe even become a Junior Ranger, come out with us! by @autpops

Happy Moonday! 🌙 One of the things I love most about the moon is how different it appears and feels over the course of a month.A crescent moon feels delicate and contemplative. Pair it with flowing water during twilight and you get something that just feels tranquil. A full moon is the opposite. It’s bold and imposing and it demands dramatic landscapes to match. The drama kind of writes itself.I put together a complete guide on environmental moon photography to explain how to create images where the moon interacts with landscapes instead of being isolated in the frame. Experiencing Greenland this way was nothing short of spectacular. Many think of this place as the land of ice, and while the majority of it is, the southern end is about as dramatic as landscapes can get 😍By choosing our own adventure and traveling via sailboat, we were able to create a custom dream itinerary. We had the freedom to decide which fjords to explore, where to camp and for how long, and which remote settlements to visit.Aappilattoq was certainly a favorite stop of mine. Photos truly don’t showcase just how staggeringly massive the peak is that towers above the settlement. Only 80-100 people call Aappilattoq home, but everyone that we encountered was so warm and welcoming to us strangers.I cannot wait to get back to Greenland this summer (for the total solar eclipse!) to experience a new area of this special territory. by @autpops

I will always look back fondly on these photos from me and @nateinthewild’s first trip together. We’ve both grown so much in the 9 years, in general and in our work, and it’s both wild and heartwarming for me to look at these older photos from a very different time.But how could I ever forget that rush of something new, exploring beautiful places while learning more about each other, the magical feeling of finally finding your person? It was far from a perfect trip—I actually found out that my grandmother passed away while we were on this adventure, but that kid sure knew how to keep me smiling from day one.
