Work from Roots, Ava Tribuson Ovsenik's second solo with VIN VIN, going through July 4

Ava Tribušon Ovsenik’s sculptural objects exist in a suspended territory between function and fiction, between display and concealment.

Drawing inspiration from jewellery boxes, luxury interiors, maritime craftsmanship, and vernacular forms of display, these works evoke familiar objects while resisting any fixed purpose. Velvet-lined cavities, polished wooden surfaces, and carefully constructed volumes suggest containment, preservation, and desire, yet what is meant to be contained is often absent.

Meticulously handcrafted by the artist, each object operates as both sculpture and stage: a space where value is produced, projected, and questioned. As Ava writes, “the velvet-lined cavity sits open and empty,” transforming absence itself into a form of presence. The works become architectures of anticipation, inviting viewers to project their own desires into a space simultaneously sacred, seductive, and unresolved.

Ava Tribuson Ovsenik (b. Ljubljana, 1997) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Berlin.
She holds an MA from the Royal College of Art (2023) and received her BFA with special recognition from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana (2021). She complemented her studies at Parsons School of Design in New York (US), Berlin International University of Applied Sciences and Anhalt University in Dessau (DE). Ava also undertook several educational programmes and residencies including Academia Nuts at the Ulay Foundation in Ljubljana (SI) and the Rise of Women in Western Balkans in Zadar (HR). She presented her first solo exhibition with VIN VIN in 2024 and her first institutional solo at UGM Maribor in December 2024.

In this new body of works, paintings and sculptures coexist in a delicate tension: dense, lyrical crowds dissolve into gestural surfaces, while the sculptural works oscillate between minimalism, functionality, and bodily presence.
