🎥 STORY TIME : Everything I needed to know about auditioning for a co-stars I learned on the first day of interning at a casting office…

If you have ever auditioned for a small co-star role - the ones that have no name - and wondered how you should approach it, listen to this story! This is all you need to know….

Does this clear things up for you? Let me know ⬇️

🎥 Audition Tip : They key to auditioning for co-stars is remembering that THE SCENE IS NOT ABOUT YOU

In a world where every actor feels compelled to make bold choices and grab the casting director’s attention immediately, you need to remember that the most important thing about a costar role, especially the ones who have no name - “Barista”, “Nurse”, “Cop”, etc - is that you are BELIEVABLE as that person!

It’s more of a utility than a showcase, make a choice, but don’t indulge. Just move that plot along ….

I have a great story about this from when I first moved to LA, it perfectly explains what casting directors are looking for when they audition for costars. Give me a follow, and stay tuned

20 years ago I had the privilege of shooting the pilot episode for a show that turned out to be not just popular, but a phenomenon.

Forever grateful I was skanky enough to play the role of Gina Gambarro and be a part of this incredible legacy.

Happy 20th Anniversary, #UGLYBETTY

🎥 Self-Tape Tip : Make your scene feel more realistic by creating action outside the frame

You don’t have to mess around with a bunch of props, or distracting scenery. Just PRETEND you’re doing the action outside the frame and the audience will believe you!

You want your self-tapes to feel like a slice of life, so it’s nice to have uncomplicated ways to make your scene come alive.

What do you think? Have you ever tried this?

No, I don’t use a reader for my self-tapes ☠️

It’s true. For YEARS I have been using a playback app to be my reader for my self-tapes, and I’m going to keep on doing it 😳

Is this ideal? NO!
Is having a human being as a reader better? OF COURSE!

But I have found that having the freedom to do my self-tapes when I’m prepared and able to do them, without the additional challenge of accommodating another persons schedule, is PRICELESS.

There are pros & cons for sure, but I’ve booked and been pinned MANY times using this method…

The app I use is called @coldreadapp

What do you guys do when you need a reader?

What do you think about this?
