SO EXCITED to announce A FIELD GUIDE TO A WILD LIFE is coming into the world next year from @parkrowbooks

Huge thank you to the wonderful @leahmol and @jamiecarr , the dream team that I feel so privileged to work with.

I started writing this book after we pitched it. All I had was a vague idea that I could write a book loosely based on the end of my Granddad’s life (but add in a roadtrip for more fun!) When I told my best friend the idea, she said, ‘won’t that make you too sad?’ It didn’t end up making me too sad. It taught me that it turns out you can, in fact, totally talk to the dead if you put them in your fiction. And that became my favorite thing about writing, which was already my favorite thing in the world.

On Monday, family, friends (and even a few people I’d never met) gathered at Greenlight @greenlightbklyn and celebrated the release of Definitely Better Now. I was so thrilled to see everyone and felt so loved and supported.

Writing a book is not a solitary endeavor! And everyone who was there from old workshop buddies who read a chapter here or there to my family who has been a constant source of support really wrote this book with me.

I asked everyone to sign my copy so I could remember all the people that helped this book get made, and it immediately became such a treasure. Keeping it forever! (Shoutout to Allegra Hyde @allegrahyde who I got this idea from!)

Biggest thanks of the night go to Courtney Priess @cocogolightly who is maybe the funniest most charming person of all time. I couldn’t have asked for a better cohost!

Also huge shoutout to Jo @jochebedsmith who BAKED 100 cookies! They were delicious!

The last of the snow melted from our backyard and I’m suddenly missing it. This winter was intense, demanding, magnificent. It got me used to such deep cold I now think 40 degrees is T-shirt weather. Geoff and I both read Tinkers by Paul Harding and kept looking at the world and then each other and saying “this looks just like Tinkers!”
