I’m beyond thrilled to finally share this project, a true labor of love and one that is deeply personal. Thank you @archdigest for ushering this project into the world with such care. I can’t think of a better way to reveal this home we have been working on since 2019, or a lifetime depending on how you look at it! It has been the greatest challenge and personal journey to reimagine the home where I grew up and I’m so proud to share it through the lens of @minh_ngoc and the words of @davidfoxley. Thank you to @madeleineluckel and @amyastley for folding it into the @archdigest collection.
.
This project was a true collaboration first and foremost with my dad and my stepmom whose trust and willingness to work with me has been the greatest gift. @curtisandwindham took this project to new heights and I am so honored to have had the pleasure of working with @billcurtis1969 and his team, especially Greg Ruffino, on this one!
.
The biggest thank you to the entire team who helped save and transform this 1939 Art Moderne home into one that could live on for the next generation.

Would you believe our client found this tapestry at auction in the very last stretch of the project? And that it wasn't hung on the wall until the day before the photoshoot?

This is the sort of thing I live for… a piece arrives at the eleventh hour, and yet the room seems to have been built around it all along. It was just waiting to kindly bestow its magic upon the space.

In truth, the room began elsewhere: with the headboard and canopy fabrics, and that glossy yellow trim. From there it became an exercise in setting the humble beside the luxurious. Homespun linen checks against fuchsia silk. Green corduroy alongside gilt metal. That balance is what allows so much color to feel restful, which matters a lot in a lively household of four.

Is there a piece in your own home that arrived last but now feels as though it was always there?

Swipe for more details, behind the scenes, and where it started with our original scheme!

One year ago, we unveiled our Listening Lounge at the Dallas @kbshowhouse, a room that went on to be featured individually by @archdigest and @modernluxury among others. Looking back, it’s still one of my favorite rooms we’ve ever designed. As this year’s Dallas Kips Bay Show House prepares for opening day, I’m taking a trip down memory lane.

The room’s story started with the walls: Robin’s Nest by @benjaminmoore. From there we layered deep chocolate browns, tonal blues and greens, and soft dusty pinks. Mirror, polished nickel, lucite and chrome bring the sparkle of a little blue Tiffany box, inspired by the rich materiality and flash of the ‘70s. The luster glazed lamp by @paulschneiderceramics gives the corner height and presence.

Custom upholstery by our friends at Bolt and Hide in Dallas, a mix of vintage and contemporary art, and a curated group of antiques make the room feel storied and collected. Old, new, and everything in between: our take on nostalgic modernism.

Favorite moment? The portiere: olive green velvet with gold brush fringe and electric peacock piping. Swipe to see! 💙

Proceeds benefited @kipsbaybgc, @thecrystalcharityball and @dwellwithdignity. Still endlessly grateful to every partner who made this room possible.

This wallpaper, titled “Eden,” features snakes and strawberries in a lush garden design and serves as the cornerstone for this room’s design. It was one of the first things my clients and I fell in love with - a holdover from the first project we started together but that got put on hold for a variety of reasons. What luck that we had a chance to bring it into the fold for this house! We searched for the perfect shade of strawberry pink to lacquer the vanity with and paired it with the green stone countertop. I had fun selecting this cheeky little apple mirror because… you know. A lively powder room for a lovely family!

Tile is the main event in this classical bathhouse inspired bathroom. With a customized Greek key mosaic border on the floor and bespoke colored trim design that wraps the whole room this was one where we really got be creative with materials. Recently featured in a story in the @financialtimes @ft_houseandhome and originally published in Dallas Morning News @dallasnews @dmn_abode.

The world of Atelier Vime. While in Paris for deco off a couple of years ago I had the pleasure of touring this private apartment where @ateliervime has installed many of their beautiful goods. It was an incredible way to see the city and familiarize myself with their product. This trip has stuck with me in so many ways and I am constantly revisiting my photos for inspiration! Scroll through for layered artistic dreaminess. I’ll never forget how cold I was on this trip! This Texan was not prepared.

Right off the bat the tile and the railing in this entry was incredible.

Cutest little spot! Love the idea to hang two little lights instead of just one.

Hi! I was freezing and @andreechalaron was chic

Who doesn’t love a little religious iconography in the mix

The most vibrant juicy orange with the little green glass wall candelabra was perfection.

Tucked under the stairwell and disguised behind a secret door is a hidden wet bar perfect for mixing up a cocktail for dinner guests. We sourced an artisanal brass faucet from Morocco to pair with the mottled glazed tile from @sarah_balineum . Sticking the seascape up on the the underside of the stair was a clever move that I love and came together the day of the photoshoot. I love how this image captures so much of what I love about this project, the jauntiness of a real collected over time feel, the custom artistry we incorporated throughout, the mix of traditional and folk-y pieces, and the determination to squeeze little moments of magic throughout the available squarefootage.

Some cute moments behind the scenes as we wrap up our Travis Heights project in Austin, TX. This has been a little over a 3 year process to get this new build fully decked out and we are so proud and excited to see it come to life. Here we are looking in to the lively kitchen through from the dining room that is wrapped in a custom chinoiserie wallpaper that I had custom designed. It features our clients favorite flora and fauna from the Texas region and is set on a sherbet-y ground which compliments the soft pink color of the cabinets.

We used a number of antiques and family heirlooms as well as our clients personal collection of art and objet throughout this home. Finding places for them was such a fun part of styling this project. From the dinnerware collection handed down from our clients grandmother that now decorates the kitchen hood, to the beautiful hand painted ceramic vase on the antique chest. This project is personal and collected.

Originally published in the Dallas Morning News @dmn_abode section, this restored Georgian was saved by our preservation minded clients. These buildings are truly special and with the right team, these old homes can be reimagined thoughtfully for the next generation.

More from this darling Dallas nursery… the large cabana stripe on the shades lends a not so serious air to the space while the palette will easily age up with this kiddo. Playfulness and agency is the name of the game in this children’s room, soft modular furniture, cozy rug, accessible toys and room to run around make for lovely play sessions! Of course, every kids rooms needs some vintage pieces and family heirlooms to give it soul.

Here is a close up of a custom bookshelf we designed for a narrow bedroom entry in this Dallas home. The idea was low, safe storage so kids could explore and pull whatever caught their interest off the shelf themselves... a la Montessori. The diamond shape on the doors gives a hint at what is hiding within, and the okra green brings some life to what was otherwise an awkward little space.
