2 Fifth Freedom flights, 2 Hong Kong flights, 1 destination. After spending 10 months on the ground at HNL due to the horrific crash of UPS2976 in 2025 and the subsequent groundings of all MD11s worldwide. N643FE finally took flight again as it departed for Hilo as FedEx 9091 Heavy. It then did 1 touch and go at Hilo before heading back at FedEx 9092 Heavy, still airborne when the flight number changed btw, which, I didn’t know they could change callsigns while airborne, but, ✨the more you know ✨ Glad to see N643FE airborne again, it did feel weird seeing an MD-11 stuck here for the past 10 months, now, there is just 2 MD-11s stuck here, N288UP and N254UP respectively, both now-retired UPS MD-11Fs, and AFAIK, N288UP has just started the scrapping process, with its engines being removed. #fedex #mcdonnelldouglas #md11 #aviationphotography✈️ #phnl taken in Daniel K. I’ve been wanting to catch this plane for a while now, but it always managed to escape my grasp. Anyways, parked up at C9 is VH-OQL being loaded up to do a repatriation flight down to Sydney as “Qantas 6008 Super”. This A380 came inbound as a medical diversion when it did the regularly scheduled “Qantas 12 Super” Service from Los Angeles to Sydney on September 29th, ended up diverting to Honolulu about 3 hours and 30 minutes into the flight. It then stayed 44 hours here. Glad I finally checked off a bucket list aircraft, anyways, ima stop yapping. Rolling inbound on 4R is JA923A embarking on its inaugural flight from Haneda as “All Nippon 186 Heavy”, this jet came fresh from the paint factory in Okinawa about 2 days prior. Due to a Cessna 172 sliding off 4R, thus closing the runway, and with the shortening of 8L to 7000ft, this caused almost all of the arrivals, least the heavy arrivals, to land on the reef runway. Reef runway arrivals are rare, and most arrivals tended to either land on 4R or 8L. So to see these 8R arrivals come in, it was..a surprise and a treat, to say the least. Anyways, enough yap, here’s United 219 Heavy (N14011) landing on the reef after an 8 hour flight from Chicago. Three airlines/aircrafts that no longer fly to HNL on a daily basis, SWIPE to see what changed. Miss having another B788 operator, now the only -8 operator is Zipair with their morning route to NRT. Wish some more airlines sent the stubby 787 here. Miss when Asiana flew here, now it’s one less 777 service to HNL, and AFAIK, United is now the only airline to send the 777 daily, with Koreanair sending the B77W on a seasonal basis. Honestly? This is one I miss the most, HNL used to be the hub of 3 or 4 engined aircraft, but nowadays? Everything got swapped to 2 engined aircraft, and Koreanair was the last passenger operator to send the 747 here, until they cut 747 service on August 25th, 2024. taken in Daniel K. Forgot to post this, Shown here is a Delta A350-900 adorned in the “100 years anniversary” livery as it rolls inbound from Atlanta as “Delta 438 Heavy” on a rare plane swap.
