Today is the 7th and final game of World Cup coverage for my little wife. For more than a year, I’ve watched her give so much of herself to this tournament. Long days. Early mornings. Late nights. Countless hours spent making sure Houston was informed, excited and connected to the World Cup and the beautiful game. What people see on TV is only a fraction of it. I’ve seen the stress. The tears. The self-doubt. The relief. The nerves. The excitement. The joy. The pride. And the quiet moments when she wondered if she was doing enough. She was. Her passion is contagious, and this city has embraced it. She’s helped bring people closer to the game, and that’s something to be incredibly proud of. She, Anthony Antoine and Houston Soccer HQ have been an amazing team and Houston is better because of what they’ve built. Cakez … I’m unbelievably proud of you.
