🚨 Litigation Update: Our Two School Vaccine Lawsuits Are Moving Forward 🚨

A Voice for Choice Advocacy is leading two of the most important health rights lawsuits in California today — and momentum is building.

These cases seek to:
✔ Restore religious protections for school entry
✔ Recognize titer testing as proof of immunity
✔ Defend parental authority over children’s health
✔ Reaffirm constitutional limits on government overreach

📌 SB 277 Religious Exemption Lawsuit is now in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
📌 Titer Testing Lawsuit is set for trial on February 13, 2026

These are the only active legal challenges in California working to restore rights stripped under SB 277 — and they represent real hope for families across our state.

💛 Lawsuits are long and costly, but progress is happening because of this community.

Another California legislative session is coming to a close.

September 30 marks the final day for the Governor to sign or veto bills passed before September 1 and in his possession on or after September 1.

But before legislation ever reaches the Governor’s desk, months of work happen behind the scenes.

Throughout this session, the A Voice for Choice Advocacy Legislative Team showed up week after week tracking hundreds of bills impacting AVFCA’s mission, attending hearings, meeting with legislative offices and stakeholders, providing testimony, researching legislation, submitting positions, and staying engaged as bills changed throughout the process.

One example: AB2651 (Bonta).

AVFCA remained actively engaged on this bill for months, raising concerns, testifying in committee, participating in conversations and proposed amendment discussions, and continuing to follow the bill through every stage.

Ultimately, AB2651 was held in Senate Appropriations and did not move forward this legislative session.

This is why showing up matters. Legislative advocacy isn’t just what happens at a committee microphone. It’s the research, conversations, meetings, follow-up, persistence and vigilance that happen all year long.

As this legislative year comes to a close, we’re proud of the work our team put in and ready for what comes next.

What is happening with religious exemptions in California?

During the 7th Annual Vaccine Safety Awareness Marathon hosted by We The Patriots USA, AVFCA President and Founder Christina Hildebrand discussed California’s school vaccine requirements, religious exemptions, and the legal work AVFCA continues to pursue on behalf of California families.

A Voice for Choice Advocacy is currently sponsoring a lawsuit challenging California’s school vaccine exemption laws under the First Amendment’s Free Exercise Clause, seeking to instate a religious exemption for K–12 school-required vaccines in California. The case was filed in December 2023.

What happened to medical exemptions in California?

During the 7th Annual Vaccine Safety Awareness Marathon, hosted by We The Patriots USA, AVFCA President and Founder Christina Hildebrand joined the 24-hour marathon to discuss what has happened here in California and the work that continues today.

In this clip, Christina discusses California’s medical exemption landscape and the increased scrutiny physicians faced following the passage of SB 276 in 2019.

During her full conversation, Christina also discusses California’s school vaccine mandates, religious objections, and AVFCA’s ongoing work, including our litigation seeking to establish a religious exemption for California families.
