What About Fired Unvaccinated Workers?

A thank you letter to President Trump followed by a much needed critique on behalf of fired unvaxxed American workers

Dear President Trump @potus @realdonaldtrump

I’m writing to thank you for your vigilance in ensuring that the routine childhood vaccine schedule is as safe as possible and for returning power to parents in making vaccination decisions for their children. I am especially thankful for your recognition that religious liberty must be protected all across the nation when states attempt to force vaccination upon American children.

On August 10 when you signed this historic executive order in the Oval Office you stated the following: “This executive order directs the Attorney General to advance legal challenges against states that violate children’s rights to religious or medical vaccination exemptions.”

This is wonderful news!

But as an NYC special education teacher who was fired for not getting the Covid shot I need to point out that the order you signed focuses on the religious liberty of parents for their children, but not that of the American worker.

Thanks to a previous executive order of yours from 2025 the military is implementing a process to reinstate and compensate military members fired for refusing the Covid shot. There is a phenomenal movie titled “Duty to Disobey” which recognizes you and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for the bold initiatives you are moving forward to right this wrong from the Biden Administration. I thank you so much for this critical work Mr. President!

However - still till this very day - teachers, firefighters, cops, sanitation workers, medical professionals as well as workers in the private sector who were fired and had their careers ruined for not getting the Covid shot have not received any assistance whatsoever. As we step into the midterm election season these people now have zero motivation. They were so incredibly thrilled when you were elected in 2024, and the birth of MAHA held so much promise. Today, unfortunately, that is no longer the case.

One of the things I’ve learned working in public policy is that advocacy is so much more than what people see in a committee hearing.

The testimony may only last a few minutes, but the real work begins long before anyone steps up to the microphone.

It’s reading through legislation, researching policy, meeting with legislators and their staff, drafting amendment language, preparing testimony, building relationships, and staying engaged throughout the legislative process.

Over the past several months, our AVFCA legislative team worked tirelessly behind the scenes to address concerns with the bill. Through months of collaboration and persistent advocacy, many of those concerns were ultimately reflected in significant amendments.

One of the biggest lessons this experience has reinforced is that advocacy isn’t always about defeating a bill.

Sometimes it’s about making a bill better.

It’s about staying at the table, engaging in respectful dialogue, and working toward practical solutions that better serve California families.

I’m incredibly grateful to work alongside such a dedicated team at AVFCA and thankful for the opportunity to play a role in this process. Moments like these remind me why I love this work.

SCA5 would create a new education funding mechanism through a constitutional amendment, but charter school students are not explicitly included in the measure’s funding language.

If approved by the Legislature and later approved by voters, this language would become part of California’s Constitution.

The solution is simple: amend SCA5 to ensure ALL public school students are included.

As a charter and independent study advocate, I believe every public school student deserves equal consideration when new education funding policies are created.

The Senate can vote on SCA 5 as early as tomorrow June 18.

If this issue matters to you, contact your State Senator today and respectfully ask to oppose SCA 5 unless it is amended so that charter public school students are included.

This week came to an abrupt pause.

There was nothing more important than being here for my mom and my family, so my work trip was canceled and I won’t be joining our AVFCA team in San Antonio this week.

That said, I am incredibly proud of our team. They have worked so hard preparing for the Women’s Leadership Summit, and I know they are going to do an amazing job representing A Voice for Choice Advocacy.

For the last 10 years, AVFCA has worked to advance health rights, informed consent, transparency, and education. Events like the Women’s Leadership Summit provide an opportunity to connect with women from across the country who are passionate about leadership, faith, wellness, purpose, and making a difference in their communities. These conversations matter, and so does the work being done to empower individuals and families with information and a voice.

While my heart is with my family this week, I’ll be cheering our team on from California and keeping them in my prayers as they continue sharing AVFCA’s mission with thousands of women gathered in Texas.

As a mother, Children’s Environmental Health Advocacy Day was deeply personal for me 🤍

As the Grassroots Outreach Director for A Voice for Choice Advocacy, I had the honor of standing alongside incredible coalition partners, legislators, healthcare professionals, and advocates at the California State Capitol to support policies focused on creating healthier futures for our children.

From ingredient transparency and reducing toxic exposures, to cleaner food systems and safer environments for kids, these conversations matter because they impact real families and real communities every single day.

One thing I continue to believe strongly is that children’s environmental health should never be a one-aisle conversation. The health and future of our children impacts all of us, regardless of background or political affiliation, and I’m incredibly grateful to work alongside organizations and legislators willing to move these important conversations forward.

It was also meaningful for me to speak about the importance of ensuring Spanish-speaking communities have access to clear, accessible information surrounding environmental health issues affecting families today.

Advocacy many times looks like long days, meetings, conversations, collaboration, and consistently showing up.

Every child deserves healthier environments, cleaner products, and a brighter future 🤍

“Your daughter has been marked absent.”

Meanwhile, my daughter was standing beside legislators, pediatricians, advocates, and community leaders at the California State Capitol speaking at the Children’s Environmental Health Lobby Day Press Conference 🤍

Truly one of the proudest moments I’ve had as a mother.

She spoke with so much grace, confidence, and heart, and watching her use her voice for healthier futures and stronger communities reminded me exactly why this work matters so deeply.

Children’s environmental health should never be a one-aisle conversation. These issues affect all of our children, and every child deserves healthier environments and a brighter future.

Together, we advocated for legislation focused on:
• Heavy metal testing in infant formula and protein products
• Ingredient transparency in diapers
• Phasing out PFAS in pesticides
• Prohibiting toxic chemicals in receipts
• Transparency and safety in food ingredients
• Support for non ultra-processed foods
• School safety during extreme heat and climate challenges
• Reducing harmful disposable vape waste
