POSTS STORIES REELS

6 months ago I started a doctorate program to become a Family Nurse Practitioner 🤍 🩺🥼

I haven’t told many people and haven’t shared it on here yet because well, I was scared. (Ok, sometimes I still am haha). Ive taken snapshots of places I found myself studying and completing assignments to remind myself that I’m doing it and to be proud of myself. I’m in full time school while working and being a single mom to two incredible boys. It’s really hard for me to remember to acknowledge that reality and be proud of myself—I tend to just put my head down and do what’s required of me without looking up. There are so many unknowns ahead of how to balance it all and provide for us but looking back at the last four years, God has quite literally provided every time and sometimes down to the minute I needed it (I’ve got stories) 🙏🏼 He already has provided the people and path for me to even be able to consider going back to school (you know who you are).

I know so many are juggling so much and it can feel overwhelming. I tend to not be too vulnerable on here cause I don’t want it to sound like I’m looking for sympathy. I’m truly not and don’t want it. However, I hope me sharing this will encourage YOU in whatever path you are on that it’s one step at a time and you are DOING it ❤️

With all that said, I’m really excited and so grateful to be in the position to pursue my education and career in this way. I find so much joy in coming alongside people in their health, healing, hard news, and joyful outcomes that I knew it was time to pursue the next step to be able to do more. I want to equip myself more to create an impact of longevity and hope for those I will have the honor to care for in the future. What a privilege.

I have quite the journey ahead of me, but isn’t that just life. I’m excited to share a little bit about it along the way with you. I am so thankful for my family and close friends who have been cheering me on the last 6 months. Your support does and will mean the world! So if I take a little longer to answer texts or I look like a zombie at any point you know why 🙂 by @awilsonwellness

fast food doesn’t have to mean crap food. Take a beat and pause, look for the good stuff, look for the whole food simple meals. sometimes seasons require you to simplify but don’t let it knock you off, set yourself free by being intentional in a way that serves the season you’re in while still feeling good💙🧞‍♂️🌀 SAVE for your reference later.

my credentials:historically terrible water drinker.

actually, two rules:

1. chug a glass of water before my first coffee.
2. @hydrojug 40 oz by lunch. refill once. finish by dinner.

apparently i needed fewer steps and a deadline. by @awilsonwellness

two of our fav year-around staples that feed one or many 🍗🥚 Comment YES for both recipes! the boys love these and they are filling (big deal in our house). I made the chicken salad once for my lunches all week. I’ve also linked my favorite egg cooker that makes peeling and boiling a dozen eggs so easy.

girl grip: RN edition 🏥🩺 my story hasn’t been linear whatsoever. but if i could tell my nervous 22-year-old baby nurse self one thing, it would be this: there will be seasons when you feel so far behind and others when you feel exactly where you’re supposed to be. and both will teach you something. every job, every pivot, every season of life has given me something i didn’t have before. wisdom, compassion, confidence, perspective.

i’ve learned that “i don’t know” and “this is my first time doing this” are perfectly okay things to say. that advocating for others can be both beautiful and incredibly difficult. that you can learn to see things from multiple perspectives without abandoning your own.

age 22 → started as a cardiac nurse, nervous as could be
• age 24 → had my first baby and became a stay-at-home mom.
• age 27 → had my second baby. age 29 → became a foster mom.
• age 30 → returned to nursing part-time as a clinical instructor
• age 31 → became a single mom and called a hospital overnight practically begging for shifts because i knew they needed nurses during 2020 & got certified in integrative nutrition
• age 32 → picked up shifts in rheumatology and worked in geriatric medicine
• age 33 → started working in cosmetic surgery during the week and bartending on weekends to cover bills and my kids’ activities. lost 20 lbs in 8 weeks from the stress (not okay) → eventually left nursing to build my health coaching business while continuing to bartend to support myself
• age 35 → had the hard realization that the business i had poured so much into wasn’t going to support us financially the way i needed it to. applied to nurse practitioner school and went back to the hospital for more stability
• age 37 → here we are: still in school, still nursing, still learning, still growing.

lots of pivoting, messing up, & unlearning. Ive learned to be durable. fight frailty. do whatever it takes to train your brain toward gratitude, even when life doesn’t make it easy. speak up for yourself. move in ways that honor who you are. stay compassionate without abandoning your boundaries.

always find joy in the small things everyday. The alternative isn’t worth it 💙 by @awilsonwellness

1. new fav workout addition at @saltway_studio

3. please be silly forever, it’s cool 😎 and good for you
4. highly recommend the health benefit of playing mermaids with friends even if that means squeezing in a few days between work, kids schedules, and all of life
5. @dodocoffeeco is the spot. I try to work on school out of the house at least once a week. changing environments improve focus.
6. walk to coffee may always be a fav activity
7. When your 11 year old says “I really like doing this with you” in the middle of baking cookies with you 😭 this is when sweets are worth it — tied to bonding moments
8. lots of learning and new training this year at work & it’s good to be a beginner again (!!)
9. stopped wearing mascara on a daily basis and reserved for evenings or out and I love it. Side note: been determined to stay present amidst these wild work/clinical hours this fall. 6 more weeks of crazy before a break.

recent travel eats 🗺️✈️ incredible how even indulging while overseas still means feeling good, real whole food, and incredible flavor everytime. What a concept. lol.

1. carrots orange ginger juice (new fav combo) & iced latte with only espresso, milk, cinnamon. No sweetener or flavor needed.
2. the best tacos I’ve ever had and you don’t leave feeling heavy
3. snack plate I made myself while he was at practice. seed crackers, aged cheddar, olives, pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts. did you know just a few Brazil nuts contains all the selenium you need for your thyroid? Real food supplement.
4. seafood dish with butter, lemon, garlic and a seafood broth with all the fresh herbs. Incredible.
5. Causal sandwich from the gym cafe (tuna, egg, fresh cucumber, tomato, spinach) and another bomb simple latte.
6. açaí bowls with an (indulgent) view
7. first time trying paella and first time in Spain for one of his games! So good. Paired it with a dry martini.
8. Some kind of delicious ahi tuna tostada situation with mango, avocado, and cream. by @awilsonwellness

over the last four years I’ve done a few things in the aesthetic wellness realm that I have loved & wanted to share since I get questions from time to time. nothing major just things to maintain and refresh. I see @kristendavidson_thehouse (ily sis) and she has built such a beautiful concept & space for our community at @thehousefayetteville. None of this is sponsored/paid, I just genuinely love this space and love the services I’ve received:

• micro-needling. first series I got was in 2018 at another place but plan on resuming skin pen micro-needling and budgeting for it 2-3x per year. This has really changed my skin texture for the better and long term.
• tox between my eye brows every 6 months cause I have a gnarly line that likes to stick with the first furrow of my brow, lol. And then I get my forehead here and there.
• lip filler. I get questions if I have received this and yes! First time I got it was in 2022 and just had 2 minor touch ups since then. Kristen does such a good job of building to your natural shape so it looks like you. It keeps my lips looks hydrated and no lines, too.
• ultra clear laser one time. This was a commitment and did it between shifts when I was on break from school. However, I had two significant pigmented spots on my cheek and guess what? It made them VANISH.

That’s it!! My skin has never been better & good daily skincare is so important, I can share that next (along with a clean, Whole Foods). My regimen is simple and effective! On my list at @thehousefayetteville next? Lymphatic facial and getting on a good skin pen schedule.

PS. I even hosted an engagement party there. It’s the perfect space for any intimate event.
