Odyssey 2026 Opening 🎞

After our opening screening of Because of You Ka Kui, Asma Waheed hosted the post-screening Q&As session with director Rosa Pang and William Tang, one of the original founding members of Beyond.

It was our honour to welcome them to be part of Odyssey 2026 and share the stage.

We learnt about the making of this unique Hong Kong documentary, as well as how the appreciation of rock music is often beyond cultural boundaries, from the UK to Hong Kong, then back to London.

Rock music is a #fashion, but also an attitude. Led by Ka Kui, Beyond inspired generations of individuals.

We are very proud of Asma, this is her 2nd Odyssey, hopefully many more to come.

Since our inception in 2020, we have been publishing several specialised reports that capture our mission in building a platform to experiment grassroot international film diplomacy. Today, we are proud to published a new report on the topic of “Indian Cinema between the UK and China”, which explores possibilities in multilateral collaboration.

It looks into the growing influence of South Asian cinema as a bridge between cultures, examining how Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi films are reshaping audience engagement and opportunities for international collaboration.

As part of our ongoing sepcialised special report series, it offers practical insights for filmmakers, distributors and cultural organisations seeking to build stronger connections across Asia and the UK.

Last year’s Race Across the World @raceacrosstheworld saw five pairs travel on an extraordinary journey from the Great Wall of China down into India. Among them, one pair in particular stood out: formerly married Yin and Gaz, whose poignant story of enduring friendship and support captured audience hearts.

I had taken this photo a week or so after the race riots last August.

The day the riots were planned for where I live, I opted out of the 20 minute walk home and asked for a lift from my sister. While driving down the same road I got called a p*ki on by a stranger as a wee Year 8 student, I saw nary (an obvious) racist nor riot, but a couple of teenagers holding a sign with ‘fuck racists’ written on it.

On this blisteringly hot day, a couple of pals and I went on a goshuin hunt across Fukuoka (for reference please see Monkey with Red Scarf)
We had a pit stop between temples to have a sweet treat, where I took this lovely photo of Rishab and Nanda.
Spending a whole day trekking in relentless heat was only made bearable through the comfort of such easy breezy friendship ❤️ by @awmskn

Bees resting in flowers! I can’t lie I was a bit scared taking these photos as I had to get fairly close to the bees and didn’t want to disturb their slumber…. This was on the way to the Attack on Titan museum in Hita— it was super hot and I didn’t have the time nor energy to get a cab so I just walked all the way. It wasn’t insanely long, but with the heat it felt like a pilgrimage. But for weebs.
In any case, walking meant I found these wonderful bees who are either hard at work or hardly working 😹

Look at this beautiful red-scarfed monkey! Just in time for the chilly weather… 🌦️🧣 This day Nanda, Rishab and myself went goshuin hunting across the city, exchanging stories and just generally having a wonderful time. I believe this was really my last time exploring the city before I left Japan, and I couldn’t have asked for better company. Now back at home not doing anything too exciting, I realise how much of a blessing it is to travel and meet such interesting people, but more on that later…

This is from the first beach Ella and I went to in Okinawa! We spent most of those three/four days going from beach to beach and exploring the little bits of the island we could manage without a car. There were a surprising number of people at the beach given how it wasn’t really warm enough on that day, and Ella and I just sat and read our books, and people-watched. These friends really reminded me of Ella and myself, and I wondered what our friendship would be like in the years to come as we figure out life after the comforting confines of education. I think considering we’ve managed both living together AND a trip abroad, we’ll be grand :)
