A lifetime of mother’s days ❤️👵🏾❤️

It’s hard to imagine leaving her wellbeing in other hands, but I can’t deny the steady toll it’s taken in every single aspect 😮‍💨😓. Listening to caregivers share their stories has been so affirming and illuminating. And the one unanimous truth I’m trying to hold onto is that she’d want us to enjoy the full breadth of this life, more than anything else.

If anyone’s familiar with any home caregivers or assisted living facilities in Chicago that give great big hugs, or any other helpful resources, please do share.

Happy belated AyinDay! 34 of em! 🎉🎉

My ancestors glowed me up all of 33 🙌🏾. Easily one of the most pivotal years of my life, and this trip at the top of 2023 was more meaningful than I could've imagined. If I was unsure before about where to prioritize my energy as an organizer, I haven't been since.

I was 18 the first time I stepped foot on the continent. It gave me sooo much joy to return to Ghana 15 years later with an organization founded and led by brilliant compassionate young people. Many thanks to @gkmc18 for inviting me and for trusting me with helping infuse the @aaprpinternational ‘s Pan-African perspective. About a month ago was the 1 year anniversary of my first official album feature 🐘🙌🏾, but unfortunately the track I’m on had to be taken off cause the sample couldn’t get cleared. Sooo just in case anyone wanted to hear it agaiiin.. this is the original audio, a live version from @laughsandlyricsstl , and a beautiful moment of inspired movement by someone I’ve never met 🖤. Self Gift #3peat 🚘

Apparently ripping the ignition out of hyundai elantras was trending on tiktok 😡. And I just finished the payments a month before 😡😡. The market is ridiculous right now, but surprisingly I was able to find a pretty sweet deallll. Figured if ima be right back to a note against my will i might as well slide around in style! 😎😎😎

My parents verrry rarely missed a Dance Africa. I can only imagine how excited they'd be to see their baby boy performing a poem with @muntudance in the first show of their 50th Anniversary Season! Alongside a handful of my all time favorite drum and dance companies! I'll definitely be sneaking to the audience as much as possible during these next few dress rehearsals to watch it over and over. This Saturday June 25th 7pm at @harristheaterchicago, @danceafricachi for tickets! by @ayindecartman

Self Gift #2 ✈

Solo dolo trips have become one of my absolute favorite things to do. Aint gotta think about what nobody wanna eat, when and where they wanna go, nothin! But NYC is somethin else 💙. I didn't make it to half of the stuff on my list, and didn't see half the people I need to catch up with, but no matter what city I'm in I'm always gon support the homies.

Haven't seen my Spelman sis @whostendayi perform since @spriggsburroughs, and she, and the rest of the cast of @forcoloredgirlsbroadway, were phenomenal!!! Nominated for 7 Tony Awards, they not playin with yall!!! 🙌🏾🙏🏾 She reminded me that her first time reviving her theatre side was in a short scene we were assigned in @jademaials 's class back in 2010 😊. The show was extended till June 5th... Do. not. miss. it.

Then Sunday my Morehouse brotha @e_mosley joined me to see a play written by our Morehouse brotha @mansa.ra3x #WhattheEndWillBe and it was amazing! Eric is also the founder of @black.mat.yoga and a @lululemon ambassador so afterward he took me to their times square store and gifted me some fancy gear 🤸🏾‍♂️. Then we caught the last couple hours of a casual Sunday in Brooklyn full of peak beautiful blackness 🖤.

Omw to the show I randomly ran into @lorensharice seeing herself on a times square billboard for the first time ever! 🙌🏾 This was among several instances of literally being in the exact right place at the exact right time for the perfect moment since the day I landed. What a trip! 😁 taken in NYC by @ayindecartman

Happy AyinDay!
33 years around the sun! 🎉

I made the mistake of believing that if I'm truly passionate about my work, my purpose, my loved ones then anything i could do for myself had to be sacrificed for what I was created to do for others. So my primary goal going into 33 was to switch this up entirely, starting with the little things. 😁

Self Gift #1

My front teeth have always had a mind of their own 🤓. After incessant thumb-sucking as a preschooler leading to a huge overbite as an adolescent, and chipping most of one of em off (while trying to escape @heroheera 🏃🏾‍♂️💥), and nerve damage darkening the other, and complications with the crown that made them take the braces off early, I just figured I had to accept my grill as it is. But over the last few months I started a long journey toward repair and I feel so confident in the team of black professionals thats gon get me right! Happy AyinDay to me! by @ayindecartman
