He will help her at the break of day” - Psalms 46:5This past weekend, representing the Association of North Carolina Alphamen, I was blessed to be crowned Miss Old Gold and Black for the Southern Region, representing all southern 7 states of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I’m not too sure where to begin. This journey started my freshman year and I would have never imagined making it this far. Thank you so so much to my God for walking with me, my village, my sister queens, the entire MOGB NC team and its sponsors, my mentors, and my friends - my gratitude for you all is immeasurable. Washington has taught me that change doesn’t wait, it is instead built by those bold enough to lead it. Thank you: To God, CBCF, my 54, the entire LI team, my 3 roommates, Senator LBR’s office, Nia, Justin, Nate, my fellow office interns, and my mom. To everyone who stopped to send a message of support, of encouragement, who picked me up when I felt I didn’t belong. It is because of your belief in me that I leave D.C with purpose, pride, and confidence in my impact within our nations’ Capital. I’m so grateful to have learned, loved, and experienced the art of democracy this summer. To have walked the halls of a Capitol that my ancestors built, to have shadowed the office of the first Black Woman Senator from my home state of Delaware. I am more than filled with gratitude; I am forever indebted. I leave D.C with a deeper sense of self, a stronger voice, and a fire that won’t go out. Crowned in blessings, heavy is the head. First and foremost, I give all my thanks to God. There’s such beauty in His timing and I am always in such awe of His intention within every part of my life. To my family and friends, thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. For advising me with the details, letting me walk in heels in your apartments, listening to me rant, helping me through the entire journey. You all have a special place in my heart. My sisters, y’all know how it is and how it always will be! Thank you a million for each of your helping hands on this journey. I truly could not have done this without you all. Beta Epsilon, thank you for making it easy to represent you well. I’m grateful to have such a trailblazing chapter. My Dreamgirls, you all have been such amazing women to meet.
