The new four-lane Wismar–Mackenzie Bridge in Linden has been completed for two weeks, yet Lindeners are still being forced to rely on a single-lane bridge that has served the community for more than 50 years. Traffic continues to back up, children are arriving late for school, and workers are struggling to get to work on time because traffic can only move in one direction at a time. There is absolutely no justification for keeping a completed bridge out of service while residents endure these daily frustrations. The government must stop delaying the opening of the bridge for the sake of a grand commissioning ceremony and open it soonest, as early as tomorrow. Lindeners have waited long enough. The bridge is completed and must be put to use now. by @azruddin.mohamed

Opposition Leader Mohamed, visited the scene of the tragic accident on the Linden–Soesdyke Highway that claimed four lives and left three persons critically injured. Mohamed urges all drivers to drive with extreme caution, particularly when travelling at night.

This US$161 million highway, which was supposed to be completed by September 4, 2026, remains without the streetlights needed to make it safe for motorists. Had the project been completed on time, with proper lighting installed, this tragedy might have been prevented. The President’s farm is in close proximity to the crash site, and the road leading to it is well lit. His black-belly sheep, Brazilian cows, chickens, and even dogs have electricity, yet a major public highway used by thousands of Guyanese remains in darkness.

If the government can find the money to light the road to the President’s farm, they must hold the contractors accountable to ensure the highway is lit soonest. Guyanese lives must matter more than Irfaan's livestock. by @azruddin.mohamed

They wanted me to fall but I am still standing, they tried to break me but God had a plan. by @azruddin.mohamed

Children in Manawarin, along with their teachers, have for years been forced to endure punishing conditions just to reach to school. The canal that should allow boats to the landing remains heavily silted, leaving students to wade through deep mud and slush while carrying their school shoes in their hands. This is not a temporary inconvenience. It is a daily barrier affecting indigenous communities. Ministers have visited, posed for photographs, and delivered empty promises. Nothing has changed.

The Opposition Leader is therefore demanding that the relevant authorities deploy an excavator immediately to desilt the canal so boats can once again reach the landing. WIN is calling on the Minister of Amerindian Affairs and the Minister of Education to intervene and ensure this long-standing failure is fixed. Indigenous children should not have to struggle through mud for the basic right to an education. by @azruddin.mohamed

Opposition Leader vehicle stoned and damaged while in police custody.

Opposition Leader’s vehicle was clamped at Parika Market on Saturday evening. When he returned to collect it on Monday, the vehicle was stoned, the bonnet was visibly dented, and a sizeable stone was found next to the vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported seeing police patrolling the area on Sunday. After realizing the vehicle was stoned, they never came back.

A vehicle in police custody should be secured and protected, not returned damaged. How did the damage occur, and who will be held accountable?

Opposition Leader Slams Government as He Addresses Commission of Inquiry into MV Barima by @azruddin.mohamed

Rudranuth “Romesh” Roopdeo, a close friend of Minister of Housing Colin Croal, has trucks, other vehicles, and derelicts occupying community land at Foulis, East Coast Demerara, which is earmarked for a nursery school. Because of Romesh and his PPP connections, children from Foulis who should be attending a nursery school in their community are forced to travel to schools in neighboring communities.

The PPP has set a terrible precedent in Guyana, where those connected to the party believe they can operate without consequence. WIN is calling on Minister of Local Government Priya Manickchand to immediately intervene and ensure that the land is cleared and made available for a nursery school or anything beneficial for the community. by @azruddin.mohamed

The house of Rudranauth Roopdeo, part-owner of R. Kissoon Contracting Services, at Foulis, ECD, is encroaching on government reserve. Roopdeo is the businessman previously identified in connection with allegations of abuse against his child’s mother, Elicia Gobin, and the alleged arson at her property. The two share a two-year-old son.

Two columns of the newly built house are on the government reserve, approximately one foot away from the road. The wall of the house serves as a fence. Utility lines also run through the property. The Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Azruddin Mohamed, is calling on Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo to immediately look into this matter and ensure that the two posts occupying the government reserve are removed.

The Vice President recently visited Foulis and promised residents a better community. Residents highlighted this very issue, yet no action has been taken. Government reserve is public property and cannot be treated as a private extension of anyone’s property.

The same resources and enforcement used by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) to remove squatters and demolish their homes should be applied in this case. Many Guyanese who have applied for land and remain without an allocation do not have any alternative, and they resort to squatting, only to face aggressive enforcement from the CHPA. The Leader of the Opposition is calling for that same energy to be directed at Roopdeo and for the portions of the house occupying the government reserve to be removed. by @azruddin.mohamed
