Insanely grateful to all the Haulers that made this summer the smoothest ride I’ve ever taken on the rollercoaster that is Small Haul 📦
So many of our guys aren’t in these photos but they all have been key players who I could not have done it without. Swipe for the full ride 👉

We successfully completed 32 student Summer Shuffles - meaning a pickup, temporary storage, and redelivery of all their items. That took an INSANE level of organization and logistics to manage all those details.

We even got to do a move TO Yellow Barn for a dear friend who was hosting her women’s workshop in the barn that coming week. Talk about circularity!!

We had students hauling students. We met parents who loved to hear that their move was supporting a project like Yellow Barn. We started to become a household name on The Hill.

And I got really damn good at driving this trailer all over town. Got stuck in some VERY awkward spots this summer, but somehow always managed to get unstuck with a little help from my Haulers.

This company is one of the main economic engines that allows us to support Yellow Barn, rather than forcing the agriculture to keep the lights on.

My main duo who did SO many load ups and unloads in blazing hot summer heat.

We had newcomers quickly see the vision of what Small Haul offers in resources, opportunity, and skills. And some we hope will stick around for another season or two and eventually start their own branches.

This business has both been my greatest teacher and my worst enemy. The last 5 years of being in CO, I tried to run it without running it. Doing whatever I could to not get back in the truck, to let my nervous system come back to baseline after the previous 3 years running this operation in Boston. Being ON 24/7 (phone calls, inquiries, quoting, logistics, finding crews, juggling trucks at 2am, hitching and backing up trailers…..) is so intense. And being the only girl in this whole company (and in all the branches) has both given me a lot of pride but also made me always try to “be faster than the boys” and my body has paid for that. This summer, I finally found my right seat in the company and managed the entire backend quoting & by @azuraye72

Building a "Mycelial" Economy: Hubs, Nodes, and Nooks

Nature doesn't grow in a straight vertical line—it spreads in a resilient, horizontal web. This clip breaks down the vision for Yellow Barn not as a single massive entity, but as a "mycelial network."

By replicating the pattern across different cities—connecting Hubs (Yellow Barn), Nodes (local markets), and Nooks (residential drop-off points)—we create a system that mimics nature. Whether it's an "egg drop" at a neighbor's house or a community grocery, this decentralized web provides stability that a vertical, "Jenga-style" corporate structure simply can't match. It’s about horizontal resilience over artificial growth.
