“I mean it,” she said. “You’re dead.”
He gave her his familiar solemn smile, the one that he’d given her all the time at the house. “Aren’t we all,” he said. “Somewhere on the timeline.”
•
You don’t dangle the mysterious, brooding boy with ambiguous past & morals in front of me and expect me to NOT root for him Ms. Len. That’s just not how it’s done.
•
Also after that ending I need book 2 stat!
•
I thoroughly enjoyed this one folks- what with it’s highly original premise & magic system, set against a Victorian era backdrop with plenty of monster families afoot. (Be still my heart.) Also there’s time travel, and I love time travel even though most of the time it breaks my brain. *shrugs* There were a few minor things that bugged me, mostly because I wanted them to be elaborated on but I’m hoping we’ll get those answers in book 2. This series has so much potential and I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for us next. PS: my ship better sail or imma riot. 😘 (Please lord don’t let me be on another sinking ship 😭)
•
Is there a character type that you can’t help but love? I’m a sucker for the aforementioned character type. 👆🏼 Bruh it’s my kryptonite, bonus points if they are witty & intelligent.

"There exists no bridge between our
lives; no path that connects our worlds."
"How can that matter? Is this not one day to be my empire, to rule as I see fit? I will build a bridge. I can clear a path. Or
do you not think me capable?"
↠
I only have one question, what oh what have I ever done to you Mafi, that you must hurt me so? Also where is book 2, I need it at once! I realize that was 2 questions but well I have been rendered quite incapable of coherent thoughts so you will have to forgive me.
↠
Oh hello, it’s been ages I know but shall we skip over the pleasantries of why I haven’t been on here and get to why I am. *Throws book at you* I finished this beaut (I mean look at it!) and came on here and realized no one is talking about TWK so I needed to remedy that asap. I need more people to fangirl with okay.
↠
I need everyone to meet Kamran, my favorite brooding, grumpy prince and his life long adversary, starched collars. And Alizeh, my beautiful, beautiful Alizeh with her quite resolve. Who is fierce yet compassionate, strong yet vulnerable and endearing from the very first page. And don’t even get me started on the dialogue, writing, and world building, gah…(someone hold me) It was exquisite, exquisite, exquisite. I seriously could not stop reading for it was almost hypnotic and melodic. Every turn of phrase was better than the last; evocative, intelligent and witty. The angst and banter, *chef’s kiss* I was at the edge of my seat fearing for the children the entire time. And then Mafi has the audacity to introduce a new character with dubious morals in the last few chapters and well, I’m already smitten folks. (*whispers* Sorcery!) TWK is not one to be missed my friends, it has everything we want in a book; lush world building, and magic system, bad ass characters, tension, political intrigue, and a forbidden romance that will leave you clawing the floor. Mafi has honed her craft and spun magic with this one! ✨

“Sorry I’m late. Someone destroyed the ramp.”
•
What was your last read and how did you rate it?
•
I finished Cast in Firelight over the weekend and I positively adored it. Ever since this cover dropped I was making grappy hands for this book and it didn’t disappoint! It is an Indian inspired fantasy (love me some good representation!) with rich world building and a unique magic system. Everything about this world was vibrant and lush. Add in two main characters with personalities that speak to my soul and I am in love. I loved the banter between the two MCs. Adraa & Jatin are both so determined and competitive with each other that their snarky interactions had me cracking up multiple times. I felt their competitive nature pushed the other to work harder and hone their craft better. I especially loved the slow burn romance aspect of it and the fact that these young adults take their responsibilities as future leaders seriously and don’t act like a dumb ass, yes plz! Seriously there was no mind numbing teenage angst here folks and it was a blessing. 🙌🏼 What’s more it is fast paced, with high stakes magical fights and I couldn’t predict which way it was going to go. I know! I’m shocked too. 🤔
•
If you love arranged marriage & the mistaken identities tropes with your romances on the slow burn side then I highly recommend picking this one up. It was so much fun to read and I am eagerly awaiting the 2nd installment. Seriously I’m making grabby hands again people.

“Power does not transform you, he’d said. It only reveals you.”
•
What is your current favorite design element of a book?
•
Ok, books with stenciled edges are my latest addiction. 😍 I absolutely love them. Can you remember the days when we used to beg for just sprayed edges? Now we get them in all different colors. 😅 (I think sub boxes have spoiled us.) I also love reversible dust jackets with character art & deckled edges. Something about the old look and feel of it makes me incredibly happy for some reason.

What’s your favorite design element on books these days? Can you guess which book/s these stenciled edges belong to? Have a great one my lovelies.

“No hugging,” I warned her. It was in our contract.”

Behold! My first read of the year. (so says the reader mid April, *shhhhhh* just go with it k.) It has been a hot minute since I have had the urge to read anything. But if anyone could fix that it would be Murderbot. Oh I almost forgot how much I love them. I could fangirl all day about why I love this series so much. But the condensed version, Murderbot examines what it means to be human in a very profound way. It speaks to the introvert in me like no other, while laying bare some very relevant themes present in society today about gender, capitalism & equality for all. And the sass level is *chef’s kiss* If you love found families, A+ levels of dry wit and fast paced, space action adventures, then this is the series for you. I seriously cannot recommend it enough.
•
A huge thank you to @tordotcompub for sending me an early copy of the latest installment, Fugitive Telemetry! It releases April 27th, so you have more than enough time to get caught up and then devour this one. Who is your favorite non-human character?
•
Murderbot, Art, Iko, M-bot, Nightblood are but a few of mine. I love them all so much. 🙌🏼😭 Are there any new releases you are especially excited for? What was your last book mail? Have a great one my lovelies.

“When we revise the horror and sanitize the grotesque, we risk erasing the paths that led us here.”
↠
Oh would you look at that, I am not dead. *waves* It was touch and go for a minute there but I guess the man upstairs (or downstairs because hey it’s me so you know all options are on the table) was like nope, not ready for her dramatic ass. So here I am, tentatively back in the bookstagram world. 😁
↠
It’s been 31234 years, err... I mean *checks notes* over 4 months since I last posted so I do feel as if I don’t even know how to gram anymore. But I am jumping on here to present you with a stack of books written by BIPOC authors, some I have read and others I can’t wait to get to. Throw in Sword of Kaigen which was a favorite from last year, and other upcoming releases like Jade Fire Gold, Six Crimson Cranes, Gearbreakers, The Jasmine Throne, so many to choose from, ah yes, we will definitely need more shelf space...
↠
So what have you guys been up to? Reading or watching anything good lately? Have you read any from this stack, spy any faves? How many do you think I have read? 😅
↠
I haven’t read anything in those months that I have been away. Unless you count subtitles? Because I have been watching a crap ton of C-dramas & K-dramas with Brenda @br.enda and Nouf @_lostinfantasy_ , so really when you think about it, they are the ones to be blamed for my not reading. 😈😂 I was being influenced and as such cannot be blamed. Yup, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. 😇 All jokes aside though thanks for keeping me sane guys. 😘 And thank you to everyone that checked in, and to those of you that stuck around! It is really means a lot. Hope you are all staying safe & healthy. 🖤

“Can you feel it? Something just changed. I believe that’s the sound the world makes when it pisses itself.”
↠
Can you feel it?! Rhythm of War is out in the world today and I’m shaking. I honestly don’t think I’m ready, but at the same time I must devour it. This series means the world to me & whenever I’m in Roshar with Kaladin & Co I always come out the other side feeling uplifted and hopeful. Does my feels go through the shredder before the end, why yes, yes it does. But what good book doesn’t do that? Hi, masochist is me. 😁
↠
Are you getting any new releases today? There are quite a few that are making their way to me and I can’t wait for my physical copies of RoW to arrive so I can hug them.
↠
A huge thank you to Nouf @_lostinfantasy_ & Juju @flymeawayy for gifting me this Kaladin print! It is so beautiful 😭 and you guys seriously spoil me. 😘😘

“Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.”
↠
Are there any books you are hoping to get to before the end of the year?
↠
Behold a stack of books I am extremely excited for and am hoping to read before the year ends. Will it be possible? I honestly have no idea because it seems all I want to do lately is be a general layabout and rewatch The Untamed and everything else associated with it. 😭😂 The hangover is real yo. But RoW is coming out tomorrow so I’m hoping for that to kick start my reading mojo and then hopefully I will get to some of these beauts by December. 🤞 If not, at least I will be able to start 2021 off right, right? Is it weird that I’m afraid to even mention 2021? 👀
↠
How are your reading goals going- are there any books you are hoping to get to before the year ends? Spy any favorites among these? I just got Addie & Kingdom of the Wicked so even more books to add to the ever growing list. 😂

Whatcha reading and is it bringing you joy? In the most stabby way of course but laughs are good too. 🌚
↠
Well, well, well. Danielle why have you been keeping Agrippa from us all of this time! I am currently reading Tarnished Empire, the latest installment in the Dark Shore World & Agrippa has become an instant favorite. He is literally my sass twin. Now don’t get me wrong I’m still #teammarcus all the way, *happy sigh* but Agrippa is weaseling his way into my heart. What can I say snark is my weak spot.
↠
Note Tarnished Empire can be read first without fear of spoilers but I would suggest reading it after Dark Shores because it will make for a better experience. So be sure to add it to your tbr as it comes out Jan. 26th! A huge thank you to Stephenie @bookish_snippets and @danielleljensen for sending me an early digital copy for review. Obviously I would have sold my soul for a whole book about Marcus but luckily it didn’t come to that. 😂 Full synopsis is in the comments.

What was the last book or show that left you obsessed?
↠
Do you know that thing we do when we are reading a really great book and we get to the end of the chapter and we go, just one more and then I’ll sleep? Well that’s was me with The Untamed, just one more episode, and next thing you know it’s 2 in the morning and still considering one more episode. 🌚
↠
My god what has this show done to me? 😭 I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the easiest to please, especially when it comes to characters. They usually have to go through so much for me to start giving a damn, enter Lan Wangji & Wei Ying. This MF just walked down some stairs, gave me a look, said a few words and I’m basically a puddle on the floor next to my baby Wei over here. Like what black magic is this? If I could describe this series in one word, it would be captivating, addictive & all consuming, okay that was 4 words. But just go with it, K. I’m emotionally compromised.
↠
If you love sweeping fantasy, majestic set pieces, filled with political maneuverings & some of the best characters arcs possible, then this is the show for you. It has two of my favorite tropes, found families, and the slowest of burns enemies to lovers romance. A romance that will leave you clawing the floor because despite the heavy censorship by the government it still bleeds through on screen, with every yearning look, curve of the mouth and the actions by the characters. The actors did such a fantastic job. @br.enda & I have been watching it together and our DMs are basically just crying & heart eye emojis, freaking out over these characters. Now if you ask her, she’ll try to be the good one and say save yourself from this hangover hellscape we are in, me I’ll be like join us because it’s the best hangover you will experience this year. Plus we have cake. What!? We all know I’m the evil one. 😈😂 B, I am not even sorry for bullying you to watch this with me & dragging you through this emotional turmoil that these boys have put us through. 😂 It’s been a blast, so thank you. 😘

What’s your absolute favorite fandom?
↠
Hello, Sanderson addict reporting in. 😁 If you know me you know how much I love his books, especially The Stormlight Archives series! *Bridge Four salute* I mean I only rave about it every 5 minutes. So obviously I was freaking out when I got this Stormlight Archive- Call to Adventure board game. The Cosmere is my number universe to explore and my god @brotherwisegames did a fantastic job bringing to life so many of my favorite scenes and characters in this world via their art. 😭 I honestly can’t wait to play, I just have to lure some poor unsuspecting souls who don’t know about my competitive nature to play with me. 🤫🌚🤣
↠
What’s your favorite fandom? A huge thanks to @brotherwisegames for sending me this game. It is such a treat for any fan of this series! 😍😭 Journey before Destination Radiants!

I absolutely adored this one. It is a Romeo & Juliet retelling set in 1920s Shanghai. Roma & Juliette are the respective heirs to their rival gangs. After a string of unexplained murders of their people, the two must now put aside the blood feud between their gangs to find out what is responsible for these deaths and save the city. Tensions flare, feelings are kindled and the game is afoot!
↠
If like me, you aren’t a fan of Romeo and Juliet, I mean those two idiots spoke but a few verses to each other, and then it was *gasp* tru wuv. Yeah, how about we take the crazy down 10 notches plz, & tnxs. I am happy to say that while there are nods to the original, this romance is much more grounded than that and doesn’t over take the plot of the book. Roma & Juliette have their own agency and together they play well off of one another.
↠
What I especially loved about it is that it is an own voices book that speaks to the immigrant experience and how you can feel like a foreigner not just in a foreign country but in your native land as well. There is this feeling as if you are never quite enough of one to truly belong. Gong also doesn’t shy away from tackling communism and it’s effects on a country, and it’s people.
↠
There were a few things that didn’t work for me, namely the big bad and how exactly there came to be a monster in a world where there isn’t any magic. I needed a bit more there. But overall These Violent Delights is a solid debut featuring great diverse rep, trans rep and there is a side M/M romance I am rooting for.
↠
Thank you to @simonteen for sending me an E-Arc in exchange for an honest review. These Violent Delights comes on on Nov 17th so be sure to add it to your tbr!
↠
Which Nov release are you excited for? Now that I’ve read this one, I just need Rhythm of War & Cardan’s book and my reading life is complete! 🙌🏼😂
