1 year in with the Rover, and 550 miles covered in the last few days.

I’ve covered more miles in the last year than it did in 17 years between 2007 - 2025 🤯

Really enjoyed doing everything myself to this car, with only the exhaust and belts being done elsewhere.

Just a reminder to me and anyone else that you can make some progress in life even if you came up on free school dinners, marking a moment in time where me and my best friend / legal obligation somehow managed to achieve something that my (Not hers) school report would’ve said otherwise.

I was still at school in 2002, at that time a 996 GT2 was in another stratosphere, I barely even knew what it was, to me a relatable fast car was a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth and that’s all I wanted.

Most owners are scared of them, kept locked away in collections. It’s effectively a 996 turbo with a lot more power, the lightness and geometry of a GT3 but rear wheel drive with no traction control. The first 911 fitted as standard with ceramic brakes and able to hit 200mph - imagine bringing it home new in 2002.

One thing that came out of having a massive power modern car is the loss of connection - just mash the peddle and the only worry is your license.

To me this is one of the coolest cars Porsche has ever made, it’s what the lads would do, some big turbos and all the go fast bits they could find. It’s definitely a car to respect and find your feet with. This particular car has led quite a pampered life 🤢 Being pretty rare I’ll be trying my best not to get to barry’d away.

Gardening. Cooking. Wandering Ikea for another storage unit to fill with trinkets; just some of the things that couples get up to these days. Maybe dance classes, if you’re adventurous.⁠

For Sarah and Billy Hilton (@sarahhheidi & @b11oem), there’s one hobby that stands head and shoulders above the rest: spending time with their cats. Second to that, however, is modifying air-cooled Porsches - and it’s something they’re rather good at.⁠

There aren’t that many Amethyst 964 Carreras around, for starters. Sarah’s 1989 Carrera 4 may have started life in a more subtle shade of Silver Metallic, but it underwent a bare-metal, nut-and-bolt restoration as part of its glow-up.⁠

Billy’s 1995, Schwarz Metallic 993 is a more hardcore proposition, but as with his wife’s car, it’s built with an immaculate attention to detail.⁠
⁠
You’ll find components borrowed from their respective Carrera RS variants on this pair. From the 964’s the uber-rare RS rear window and parcel shelf, to the 993’s RS Clubsport rear spoiler and lightweight glass all-round.⁠
⁠
Both Carreras feature RS lightweight clutches and flywheels, too, as well as the foglight ducts for cooling for the brakes. Their road-hugging ride heights come via custom KW V3 suspension, both with RS top mounts, but in Billy’s case paired to 993 GT2 uprights for more suspension travel.⁠

There’s a lot more under the skin, but it all pales in comparison to what makes these cars special, and that’s just how well they reflect their owners’ personalities. Once you get to know Billy and Saz, you understand why these cars make so much sense.⁠

The ‘OEM 993’ plate is a tongue-in-cheek touch on Billy Hilton’s 1995 911 Carrera (@b11oem). Sure, there’s a plethora of genuine RS and GT2 parts onboard, but it’s far from standard. Given Billy’s laid back yet detail-oriented, almost obsessive, personality, it’s little wonder he’s modified his car to suit.⁠

The BBS LM wheels are the most arresting addition, but the custom side skirts become more obvious in the sun, flowing into the lines of the GT2 front bumper. The Morimoto headlights, Blaupunkt head unit and Focal Utopia sound system blend period-correct styling with modern amenities.⁠
⁠
Like husband like wife, and Sarah Hilton’s Amethyst 1989 Carrera 4 (@sarahhheidi) sits on a set of Eta Beta ‘Turbo Twist’ split rims, refurbished and rebuilt. Given Sarah’s more outgoing nature, the difference in styling and general vibe surrounding each car is clear as day.⁠

If you saw them parked side-by-side, you’d never think that they belonged to a married couple. Yet, this combo could only belong to a pair with the same passion for modified cars.⁠

They’ve just celebrated their five-year wedding anniversary, so clearly the Hiltons are doing something right. I only had one question for the pair: ‘You’ve spent years messing around with modified cars together. What does it mean to you?’⁠

At first, I received a very elaborate answer about how rare and special it is, but then Sarah changed her mind, with a laugh. “Does it make sense when I say it literally doesn’t mean anything? Like, it’s just our life!”⁠

There lies my favourite thing about Billy and Saz. Yes, they have a pair of killer cars, but it’s no more than a shared hobby, like any other couple. The 996 GT2 at home is proof that it can get out of hand, too, just like collecting stamps.⁠

I think I’ve been going to Scramble since the first one, you always see some weird and wonderful things but maybe not as much as you used to.

Many of the best cars are now lost in the public car park, and you can no longer wander around it in the same way. It’s a shame to see so many pre-2000 cars not making it into the main site, still an amazing day out but maybe monetisation has taken over?

It’s a funny looking kitchen I know… but when a 1/16 1 owner Guards Red 997.1 GT3 pops up..

I put a deposit down on this on the 13th August, a few hours after it was listed, without any photos or much info & didn’t speak about it for nearly a month as I was petrified I’d jinx it somehow. 🌹

I won’t bore you with another paragraph about how grateful I am etc etc you all know by now 🫶🏼 but yeah, crazy. 🥹

Northampton and back without much breaking or deflating. Just a rear caliper falling off and the suspension ride quality similar to that of a Pilates ball 🫨
