I think I did it! 💚
I think I crammed the most recyclable items in a small poop bag than I ever have before
...43 items! ♻️
- 8 multi layer plastics
- One ink pen
- One battery
- 5 plastic bottles
- 2 cans
- 7 Plastic caps
- 17 Metal caps
- 2 Can tags

Check out Ridwell's site for what unique things they can repurpose, including styrofoam, pots & pans, damaged clothes, etc. -
https://www.ridwell.com/what-we-take

I want to clarify what I implied in this video, Ridwell takes all but the cans & bottles. Obviously, you can get $ as CRV refund for those or easily drop in a blue bin. Actually, I will try to post more specifics of what the blue bins can & cannot take, cause I know they take a lot!
I will continue to try to post on other amazing companies, too, like #pactcollective for beauty products, #bottlebank for cash for CRV containers, office supply stores recycling printer inks, and more! Send me your ideas, too!

On 4/1 we had Papaw’s Celebration of Life with a Marine Corps Honor Guard, a 21-gun salute, Taps, and the folding and presentation of the flag to his son. The beautiful venue in Oak Hill offered multiple longhorn admirers on site.

4/1 was the same day Papaw landed for the Okinawa Battle, Japan as a Marine PFC in 1945 at 19 years old. He passed decades later at 99 years old. He survived the Great Depression, over 35 years as Marine Corps career, spanning WWII, Vietnam and North Korean wars. He received a Bronze Star, completed 10 holes-in-one, built & lived in his dream home since 1971 in South Austin and raised a family, including three generations of U.T. of Austin Longhorn alumni. As my Uncle previously stated, his father lived on his own terms until the very end.

We’ll celebrate him always. Semper Fi and Hook ‘Em Horns, Papaw. 🎖️❤️🤘🧡

Today my Papaw passed away less than two months from his 100th birthday. He’s been the only grandparent I’ve had since losing all others over 30 years ago. He was still living alone in the house he built on “the hill” in South Austin back in 1971. He wasn’t the most affectionate or engaged grandparent or parent, but he always had a smile on his face and a hug to give. I remember little things that made me so fond of him.
🧡 I remember the frosted flakes and half a grapefruit he’d eat every morning for breakfast while completing a crossword puzzle.
🧡 I remember the nicknames he made up for family, most fun but not always complementary. He called my Mom Wart. 😬
🧡 I remember his permanent white ankles from years of golfing in shorts.
🧡 I remember him always having a nice Cadillac sedan to tow his golf cart.
🧡 I remember him helping teaching me how to defensively drive when I was 16.
🧡 I remember growing up with him always smoking a pipe then suddenly stopping after decades.
🧡 Though rarely sharing about his mother’s very difficult life, I remember learning how proud he became of his Native American heritage.
🧡 I remember the orange blood running through his veins for the love of the University of Texas Longhorns. His favorite greeting was🤘Hook ‘Em Horns!, now for three generations of U.T. alumni, his son, his granddaughter and his great grandson.
🧡 And, finally, I remember what made him most proud was being a U.S. Marine Corps vet, now three generations, himself, his son and his grandson. Oorah.
More lately I would try to get him to share stories from the wars he fought in. Fortunately, this last holiday, I even recorded this story of a Japanese single engine aircraft in WWII they called “washing machine, Charlie.”

We love and miss you, Papaw, Dad and friend! 😢 by @b_alicia_keyes

With its profound cover, little did I know what this recently empty journal would hold for me in 2025.
Now full, it’s closed out probably the most difficult year of my life. Thanks to @the.rooted.yogi soul saving yoga retreat in Sept., I’ve journaled more in the last four months than ever before. This has grounded and given me peace in the middle of one of life’s greatest storms, a divorce. I’m grateful to close this journal full of pain and self discovery to new openness in 2026. So, to help answer a profound question I was just asked, I started my new journal with, “What am I grateful for in 2025?”
I was stumped, again, similar to the task I was given at the first night of that Mt. Shasta yoga retreat, when asked to write a love note to myself. Frozen with tears, all I could start writing was, “This is the first love letter I’ve ever written to myself.” Ending it with, “You matter.” I then realized its burrowed deep grip on me, I had to release failure. Just as I went to that retreat fragile, downtrodden, and full of sorrow then left uplifted, inspired and changed forever, so I leave 2025. I start anew now realizing that Thoreau’s “live the life you’ve imagined” is the key. That was my gift of 2025, to believe in myself, that love and happiness and abundance is for me, in me and flows through me. Use this key. It may unlock whatever sadness or pain you hold to open more life and belief in and for yourself, automatically lifting up those you love and care for. Be open, most importantly, to unlock love and care for yourself, by yourself and by all beautiful souls around you. Put in the hard work to discover and know yourself. Imagine, believe and receive.

Priceless. It’d been decades since I’d spun under the Zilker Park Christmas Tree. There’s nothing like growing up under those lights.
Cherry on top was getting to do the Lake Austin Lights boat tour. Great new tradition.

I march for too many I know that are too scared to. Freedom to coexist and prosper in peace is the foundation of democracy and our amazing U.S.A.’s independence. 🇺🇸 ✌️

I needed a beautiful Fall Solstice night for a fresh start. Grateful for the beach waves to take away loss & all the pain that coms with it, to bring in love & joy for my new season. 😢

I recently moved out since Rob and I separated this summer. As it wasn’t one particular thing that happened, it was an overwhelmingly difficult decision, but fortunately, it’s been extremely amicable. 🙏

We started as best friends and will always be friends. We both deserve the most a partnership can be. We deserve the moon, deserve space to each find more peace and love for ourselves so we have more capacity to give and receive all we deserve. ❤️ taken in Muir Beach, California by @b_alicia_keyes

Did someone say Mt. Shasta yoga retreat for the first and perfect timing in my life? Thank you @karenpavonephotography for sharing this gift to myself.

It’s only day two of four and this has been life changing. @the.rooted.yogi has brought together 20 incredible woman from across the country to her Return To Nurture retreat and helped facilitate transformation of body, soul and spirit. Magical moments of guided meditation, circle sharing, yoga, massage, sound bath, outdoor bath and sauna, tears, laughs, lots of journaling, new friends, incredible nourishing food and more.

I am in awe and forever grateful! 🙏
