On Friday, July 3 I’ll be joining the @desmoinessymphony during “Yankee Doodle Pops” to perform a spoken word piece titled “Beauty” that I wrote from the perspective of a young black man in the year 1863 after being informed that he was a free man. In 2022 I was commissioned to create the piece and I performed it on the steps of the capital in front of 50,000+ people and the moment changed my life forever. My mom, dad and closest friends were sitting in the front (my mother was sobbing the entire time..lol) and it was the most memorable moment of my life thus far. The event is free to the public, so I’d love to share the moment with you..🌻The sun is out, therefore the kneecaps are too.. it’s only right. The mindset is stuck on gratitude, and God been doing his thing. Very thankful these days. Forever indebted to the process of becoming a better man, son & artist. Honor your gifts..🌻My brother @whatsgoingandrae told me this one Sunday at Church, and there hasn’t been a day in which it doesn’t sit at the front of my mind. At least, be thankful. At most, be thankful. A lot to cherish, love & be grateful for. I’m trying hard like everybody else. Joy feels good, so does the sun. Tell ya people you’re proud of them. Tell em, you love em. Celebrate em. Smile with em. We all we got. Nobody’s perfect, but nobody asked you to be. Keep showing up. Thank you my friends, for everything. “Trying to do more good than bad”. Happy Friday good people. Today marks the last Friday for the East Village Holiday Promenade for 2025. Please be safe if you’re out this evening. Stop by to say hi. Last Friday, my mother called at 5:15 (ironically enough) to let me know her mother, and my grandmother Marie, had passed away.. I knew something up because she never calls during dinner time, and rarely on a Friday. As I stared at the phone, I knew what the call was about. Like many others who are blessed enough to reach their 90’s, some days were better than others, but the previous 6 months had been rough. Receiving the news meant she was at peace. 3 hours later we was on the stage opening up to Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony.. a group that helped to shape my sound and folks I admired being from Cleveland. They got love, admiration and actually made it coming from the Midwest, so it seemed reachable to us.. they also had a song with Biggie & Pac and not many folks are able to claim that.. I got a chance to share a moment of silence, love & remembrance for her. She was a good woman. Like my sisters said during her service yesterday, she was very present. Did the most with what she had. Was extremely resourceful. Creative. A great listener and made you feel at home. I pray she was enjoying the show Friday night, and dancing a little like she’d try to every now and then when one of her favorites came on. Love you and always will. Hug ya people and be present. Next Saturday, I’ll be performing at @woolysdm with a bunch of close friends & good people. Doors open at 7:00 & it’d mean a lot to see you there with us. (11.8)Tomorrow night I’ll be opening up for @btnhlive with @apollo_spacey & @cdisiac • along with @chill_mac_ • @flylife_uvt & @sqvce • a beautiful way to celebrate Halloween. We’ll see ya there. (10.31)My brother @ammixes and I been working real hard on a new project & we’re both proud of it. “Trying to do More Good Than Bad” will be yours soon.. 🌻Back in September the @bwell.foundation was blessed with opportunity to take over afterschool programming for Hillis Elementary. I grew up for a portion of my life about 1 mile from Hillis, so it’s been a cool full circle moment. As my sis @katelyn.stessman says, “we’re building the plane as we’re flying it..” lol • I think we’re doing a pretty good job & makes my heart feel good. I know we trying real hard.. • Shout to my brother @_ahmed1k 3 weeks ago we hosted our 6th annual Longshots 3x3 basketball tournament that showcases the five Des Moines area high schools! Roosevelt took the sweep, shoutout the guys and gals programs.. this year also marks $30,000 we’ve been able to donate back to the five schools’ basketball programs, so thank you for that Des Moines. We got some cool things cooking at @thecontrarydsm that we’ll be announcing shortly. It’ll also be our birthday on (11.21) (so don’t make plans for that Friday night, cuz we need to celebrate with ya) A friend of mine told me I need to tell people about what we got going on more, so.. thanks for listening. I be sad some days. Happy some days. Hopeful most days. “Trying to do more good than bad”.. Thankful for a chance to say “thank you” and perform once again. This show will serve as a love letter. One I’d like to share with friends, family and fans. Thank you to @isaac_joseph for always holding it down and giving a brother a shot. Been working with my brother @ammixes on something special. It’ll be yours soon enough. Excited and grateful to have @stazsa & @_zzzayy_ apart of the show. I was working one morning with @borgology and he showed me a clip of a music video he was shooting for Zay, and I asked him to replay it about 7/8 times because it was fire and I needed to know who it was. lol reached out to him later that day about 11.8 and he was down, no questions asked. Stazsa is someone I was introduced to through a mutual friend, and that I’ve seen a few times and admired her persona and voice. I sent her a couple instrumentals / demos a few months back and she sent me back a hook almost immediately (that’ll be on the next project). I’ll be accompanied by some of my brothers as well. @apollo_spacey • @robespecially • @chill_mac_ • the man with the plan @cdisiac and a few more I’ll share over time. My friends at @wildflowerdsm will be helping to bring some beauty to the stage and atmosphere. I know everyone is busy and obligated in some capacity, but if you’re able to make it out, it would be greatly appreciated. “I don’t have it all figured out, but I see God when my friends laugh” - @katbetz Thankful for another rotation around the sun. Thankful for the people I get to call friends and family. Gots to see it thru my boi. Thankful for it all. Thanks for believing in us and giving us a shot. @thecontrarydsm 1 month anniversary was Sunday and the support thus far has been incredible.. thankful beyond measure for the team we’ve built.
