For the third OAT session, we will be discussing @carlitorovelli ‘s The Order of Time with Kiana Salehi.

Together, we’ll explore how physics challenges our understanding of time, from relativity and the relationship between space and time to memory, poetry, and the ways we inhabit the world.

This session will be held entirely in Farsi.

💌 WORKSHOP 5: Archiving Memory into Stone with Ajwa Zulfiqar

🛝An ERHUA PLAYGROUND x WISH U WERE HERE workshop: come gather and play ⛲️

Date: September 24 (Thursday) Time: 6:30-9:30PM Place: @baaa______baaa (300 Campbell Ave, Unit 114)

Our fifth session, “Archiving Memory into Stone,” will be led by @ajwazul. Come learn how to do a guided journalling and art-making workshop using found stones and rocks! Ajwa Zulfiqar is an arts worker, thinker, and anthropologist interested in creating more accessible and inclusive art spaces. Her work spans community programming and curating art markets at Wychwood Barns, and advising public mural projects with StreetArt Toronto. Ajwa’s personal creative practice is centred on looking, curating, and archiving memory and emotions that exist in liminal spaces. Building this practice through community-centered gatherings and relational art practices, Ajwa runs @moon___minded. She is also a serious dessert enthusiast.

🥸 Join in the spirit of these sessions being “anyone can be an [insert creative discipline here]”—whether that is a DJ, a ceramicist, a tattooer, a writer…come and collect whichever new skills and experiences you wish, gathering your own fruit basket which becomes sweeter with each session. 🧺🍓🍇🍑🍊🍏 ✏️✂️📚

Poetry Night 013 - the Music of Things

I got reminded of a famous phrase in a famous book on the first scene at the opening it goes like: “in the beginning there was word”
Apparently word seems to have lost some of its meaning in translation- as happens always- and apparently it is a translation from the term “logos” in Greek.
Logos contains much more than just word. It looks to me like the possibility of being, a movement, and a synchronization.
So why not say in the beginning there was music?
Is not everything a music?
And at what point do words begin to grab on it?
And what is an original move-ment?

And this is yet another pretty random observation on how to situate the necessity of music.
And yet falling in the true cliche that music keeps us alive.

Learn and share about honorific incense practices in this participatory workshop with artist Kristi Chen. Through conversation, material demonstrations, and hands-on incense sculpting, we’ll explore personal and historical narratives together – and make something precious to take home.

As we will be working with fine botanical powders and natural smoke, we are happy to provide N95 masks and safety goggles for your comfort and protection. Please let us know if you have any specific sensitivities or respiratory concerns.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

This workshop is part of ‘To pick up the pieces,’ an exhibition at Whippersnapper Gallery curated by Guidance Council featuring Golboo Amani @golboa, Kristi Chen @kristi_xy, Laura Grier @lalalauragr and Khadijah Morley @peenutbuttahbabe that reflects upon collective grief and what emerges from its aftermath.

The Back Alley for Art and Architecture (BAAA!) presents a talk and screening of @crumblingland , a multidisciplinary project by @noah_gotlib documenting climate migration’s transformation of on property and sovereignty in North America.

The project studies "managed retreat", the euthamism given to state/community-organized climate migration through documentation of over three dozen sites across Canada and the U.S. The project was recently exhibited at @citygroupnyc , an architectural collective in New York City.
