I feel so fortunate to work with amazing designers, creators, researchers and engineers.

💞 This month, we will create some mandala art and cards of hope to send to little ones who are orphans in Nepal, especially since the devastating flash floods that happened in late August this year. A little art and hopefully some money raised will provide food, supplies and hope for our little ones Baal Dan Charities.

The word mandala comes from the Sanskrit for “circle” and has been used for thousands of years in traditions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Shintoism as a representation of wholeness, harmony, and the universe. Giving a mandala to a child can symbolize unity, balance, and a safe, contained space. A visual reminder of stability and inner peace.

💫 A small gathering, but a mighty impact at the Baal Dan Charities Networking for a Cause happy hour.

🌍 Old friends and new gathered and together we were able to raise enough money to help save the lives of two little ones in Ethiopia with 3-month supplies of essential food rations that treat malnutrition for our grantee Action for Social Development and Environmental Protection Organization (ASDEPO).

💚 Every single dollar makes a difference and is precious. Thank you to the amazing folks that attended, some of whom have been supporting me since the very first GIVE in 2017! Amaseganalo = Thank you!

💫 Ahead of the #UNGA, and at the kind invitation of Annie G. Toro, I was delighted to have the opportunity to join representatives from NGOs such as Save the Children International, Partners In Health and agencies such as United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to discuss ways that foreign aid can be strengthened with the Office of Representative Mike Quigley held in Washington D.C. and his staff.

🌍 It was an inspiring session, and I was moved by the Congressman's reference to; "By your acts you give people faith...", in acknowledgement of Baal Dan Charities' grassroots approach to helping those in need.

💚 And, while my organization was the smallest in this session, it was affirming to have my approach of partnering directly with local NGOs such as Action for Social Development and Environmental Protection Organization (ASDEPO) in Ethiopia be validated because it works!

🙏 Thank you Annie G. Toro and Elena Taeyaerts for including me and I look forward to sharing more ideas for strengthening food aid partnerships to help more children in need! by @baaldan

Where does your money go when you donate to Baal Dan It goes to food rations and meals through a grant to our partner ASDEPO.

For $60 we can provide each of the mothers of these children with a huge sack of food rations that will feed a child for 3 months. No waste, no admin costs. Just the will and tenacity of a team that is doing the hard work to get food relief to children impacted by conflict, climate change and poverty.

Twenty years ago, this photo captured one of the very first moments of Baal Dan. Back then, friends and I would collect pennies in jars, do happy hours and whatever we could to raise money. With those early donations, I would walk through the markets of Kolkata bargaining for the best prices on essentials like school supplies, toothbrushes, underwear, biscuits, and toiletries. Then, with the help of volunteers we would camp out at Loreto Day School, Sealdah thanks to Sister Cyril, to pack individual bundles by hand and distribute them to children in need on the streets, at the railway stations and in the poorest areas.

What I learned then still guides me today: impact is not measured by the size of a donation, but by what it makes possible. Since that time, we have directly helped more than 15,000 children in 15 countries.

This year fundraising has been slower than usual, and I'm asking for your help. If you've ever wanted to support vulnerable children, introduce me to a company that may be interested in sponsoring a cause, or simply be part of a community using connection for good, I'd love your support for our upcoming Networking for a Cause event on September 23 in New York City. And, you don't have to be in NYC or be able to attend the event to support us!
