How well do you really know your supply chain?

Modern slavery might feel like something happening far away, but the reality is that it can be much closer to home than we think, often hidden within the complex global supply chains that businesses rely on every day.

As businesses, we have a responsibility to understand where our products and materials come from, who makes them and the conditions in which they work.

Understanding the risks, asking the right questions and working collaboratively with suppliers are all important steps towards making a meaningful difference.

This Sunday 18 October is Anti-Slavery Day, an important reminder of why we all need to be paying attention.

What a brilliant start to Decorex!

@jules__haines and I were thrilled to launch the Sustainability Space yesterday @decorex_international. Huge thanks to Kate @mad_about_the_house for creating this space for us. Four fascinating conversations exploring waste, toxicity in our homes, natural materials, and the next generation of designers and green skills.

Thanks to @wearerepairs, we learnt that a staggering 22 million pieces of furniture are discarded in the UK every year. That's around 60,000 a day. Insane!

From @delythfd's campaign to reform UK furniture fire safety regulations, to Emma Tweedie from @campaignforwool leading a brilliant discussion on natural materials, and Jeff Hayward from @wildwoodplus Plus exploring green skills and the next generation.

We ended the day with a fascinating conversation alongside @kerrynharpercuss and Helen Gordon from @nested_living on designing healthier homes. If you haven't read Kerryn's book, @sanctuarybydesign, you really must!

Behind every handmade rug is a weaver, a community and generations of knowledge. Too often, they go unseen.

Our Founder @bella.valenzia will join a panel exploring how interiors brands can protect heritage skills, create fair and lasting livelihoods, and make sure makers truly benefit from the growing love of handmade.

Alongside Claire Fouché of @volga_linen , Thalia Kennedy of @turquoisemountain and Mirry Christie of @bable.world , she’ll share what we’ve learnt from working side by side with our weaving partners across India, Nepal and Turkey.

@kerrynharpercuss is a three-times magazine editor and interiors writer known for championing timeless, sustainable homes and craftsmanship. She is also co-author of a “Sanctuary by Design - Interiors for Life-Enhancing homes” a 240-page book focussed upon designing for all the senses and joining the dots between physiological health, wellbeing and earth-kind choices @sanctuarybydesign Her co author is international interior designer Diana Blanchard, who is also a trained somatic coach.

@helgordon is a regenerative designer and co-founder of @nested_living , an award-winning design-and-make and consultancy studio creating bespoke interiors, joinery and furniture, She is also chair of the @thebiid Sustainability Committee and part of the founding team behind Living Thames, helping to advance bioregional collaboration and local resilience

Mirry Christie is the Founder and CEO of @bable.world , a sustainability consultancy specialising in the interiors industry who works with brands to understand their environmental and social impact, helping them build responsible businesses that are commercially successful. She is also co-founder of The Green Room, a collaborative community of over 80 brands working together to accelerate sustainability across the sector. @thegreenroomuk by @bable.world
