I haven’t posted in such a long time starting again feels awkward. Bear with me!! What better way to get back to it than #memademay2025 !
Not sure I’ll show up daily, but what I do like best about this prompt is how it pushes me to wear what I have made, and find new combinations and therefore not reach for the same jeans and sweatshirt outfit I gravitate to. Can anyone relate?! 😂

I was the very lucky recipient of a recent giveaway by @taukomagazine and @riversidefabrics and while I haven’t been posting my makes for well over a year now ( 🤷🏼‍♀️) I’m still sewing and still enjoying what others in this community are sharing! But feast your eyes on these incredible fabrics! The superior quality of the embroidered linen is amazing, and the soft drape of the lightweight cotton hemp indigo denim is wonderful. I’m going to take my time on how best to use these pieces. In the meantime, my digital subscription from Tauko is full of eye candy and fascinating articles, as many of you know.

Even though this @merchantandmills #septembercoat has been complete for months now, I’m having a tough time posting my makes. @sewover50 was the inspiration thanks to the challenge #sewoverageism2023 which highlights patterns featuring mature models. I believe I have several items that qualify so I must photograph them to enter - not just for the prizes but to give a huge shout out to all the pattern companies (big and small ) who use older models when promoting their products. From tablecloth to summer layer, I fussy cut around stains and utilized the awesome hemstitched corners and edges to create this fun jacket. Feels like a cotton linen blend so it sewed up like a dream. I based it on #tessutipatterns #tessutiines but totally winged the neckline and collar. Jury is still out on buttons - I will mostly wear it over a tshirt with jeans.
I thought about my mom throughout the process…she’d have liked its’ repurposing. ❤️ Words she lived by:
Use it up
Wear it out
Make it do

Do without

This is the cropped version of the @vivianshaochen #daphnejacket - her newest and soon to be released - in a subtle blush pink and beige herringbone cotton. I sized down for this one since layering will be done over lighter weight tops, in warmer weather. I used the slanted pockets for easier access in this length. Like my wool version, I serged seams as opposed to binding, for less bulk. The fun tag is from @corefabrics Swipe to see it and the herringbone pattern!

I’m testing the #daphnejacket for @vivianshaochen - can’t tell you how great this pattern is!! Simple, FAST, and very versatile….this version is done in a wool flannel. Unlined but roomy to layer comfortably. I’m working on a second, cropped version in a cotton herringbone twill that will be warm weather suitable. Vivian should be releasing the pattern very soon, once we all have our feedback in, but if my experience is similar to all the others, there will be little to no tweaking necessary. Brilliant drafting. 💪🏻

There’s a new jacket pattern being released soon, by the talented @vivianshaochen and I’m fortunate to be testing for her again. A simple shawl collared design with endless fabric and detail options! ( like this handy phone pocket!)
