I am so proud of my show Excavating the Sky at the @theicala, curated by the devoted @absroka_peters. It was my first institutional show and it was such a pleasure to weave together elements that span from painting the arterial lining decay of military jet pilots last year to fifteen years ago, when I found a dead hawk using its wing as a pillow and final resting place. The heart of the show was What goes up, my video about my failed bid to go home to the Middle East by (almost) enlisting in the U. S. military and how I sort of kind of returned by remaining in Arizona, looking up at the sky, and waiting for a military jet flown by an Iraqi to fly by (there may also be a visit to Bagdad [sic], Arizona!)

I apologize for my delay in posting. This delay was not caused by my pride in the show! Due to the treatment I was receiving during the show's run and how it affected my memory, I thought I had already written and posted. With eternal thanks to @anneellegood and @absroka_peters and @emiliasdv and @asukahisa for being such vibrant and take no prisoners ladies.

Tomorrow is the opening reception for my show, "Sunset dreams the sky's downfall," at UC Irvine! 2-5. It will be until December 13.

I have a gallery to myself, but my exhibition is under the umbrella of "Before The Law," a War on Terror group show Simon Leung and Sora Han are recurating twenty years later. I am so proud to be in this show. How do our atoms rearrange themselves when we imagine power calling our way, looking at our direction, looking up our texts and images? Is it paranoia or hope that drives us to constantly rehearse being in court, before the judge, kneeling to the king?

Lord, please make me more paranoid, so I can feel fulfilled as a citizen. I miss seeing God's eye behind every corner. Fire up your orange cables, finally fall is coming!

I am afraid that by posting this I make it into entertainment. We live in cities where a glance outside means witnessing human rights abuses. About a month ago, my bus passed by this gentleman who was wrapping his seeping calf wounds with what seemed to be an iridescendently white plush hotel towel. I don't know what to hope for. At base, I hope he found a place to stretch out his legs when he slept. That wasn't a box or a stair or a door well or a bench. I hope he was able to sleep that way multiple days in a row and the blood purfused his extremities and helped his wounds scab. by @backstoryache
