De Cinema and DE SINGEL present the 4K restoration of Yvonne Rainer’s 1980 feature JOURNEYS FROM BERLIN/1971, in the context of Alex Baczyński-Jenkin’s MALIGN JUNCTION (GOODBYE BERLIN), a poignant choreography that oscillates between stasis, loss, and the fractured promise of progress.

Widely celebrated as a dancer and choreographer for her distinctive style and as a co-founder of the influential Judson Dance Theater, Yvonne Rainer turned to filmmaking in the early 1970s, after several years of incorporating her 16mm films into dances and performances. JOURNEYS FROM BERLIN/1971 is a collage-like meditation on political activism and revolutionary violence.

I’m so thrilled to invite you to the premiere of Angelic Conversations, as part of the opening of steirischer herbst’ 26, Graz, Austria.

Angelic Conversations engages with structures of desire, undertaking the conditions of devotion, grace and ecstasy.

The choreography, in the form of a trio, moves between historical and contemporary movement vocabularies, accompanied by sound, light and poetic text. At the heart of the work, it explores the sensual, political and relational potential of the angels.

We are in the last phase of rehearsals and I’m elated to be working with this crew of collaborators.

I hope you can join us

-

As part of our Échelle Humaine festival, Alex Baczyński-Jenkins unveils ‘Federico’ (2015), a furtive piece shared between two performers on the memory of touch, on the scale of hands.

Each iteration of the performance is choreographed in collaboration with the performers and adapted to the duo - with a special version created for the festival performed by dancers Malick Cissé and Andréa Givanovitch.

Also not to be missed is the Paris premiere of the choreographer’s film “Such Feeling”. “Such Feeling” is a poetic and political documentary that follows a group of friends, in Warsaw, where they play, protest and support each other amid social transformations in a hostile state. It is a poetic account of everyday queer life, friendship, intimacy and resistance in Poland in the years 2019-2024.

ℹ️ Performance ‘Federico’ samedi 20 sept. à 16h et 18h + dimanche 21 sept. à 16h30 et 18h30

Hey dears,

I’m fundraising for Ahmad Albayouk’s family in Gaza by selling this edition.

It’s a photo I took in Torino, Gaza’s sister city, during a rehearsal in 2024 of the piece Unending love, or love dies, on repeat like it’s endless.

The photograph is an edition of 15 for 250 euros per edition + sending costs from Berlin. The format is 20X30 cm.

To purchase an edition, write to me at studio.baczynski.jenkins@gmail.com with the title - Edition UEL.
