BADAFF PARTICIPANT NEWS: Group Exhibition “TALKING THREADS” at @taleartgallery.be / 20.09.—18.10.2026 __ This exhibition draws on the gallery’s textile heritage. In the former sewing factory, textiles once again take centre stage, this time as an artistic medium. Talking Threads brings together nine contemporary artists and designers who use textiles as a medium of communication within their contemporary artistic practice. Looking back at BADAFF 2026 at the Arsenaal site in Ghent / It was a pleasure of co-curating the Belgian Art and Design Affair 2026 together with Thomas De Ben @thomasdeben @badaff.be / For the curated space I had the privilege of creating a light installation, in dialogue with the venue and the industrial character of the space -> 12 monumental paper lamps were dispersed over the site, adding a warm touch amid the bright fair lights.  - The Cardboard and Glazed Paper Lamps are crafted from recycled cardboard, glazed paper and connected with steel nuts and bolts. - The glazed paper shades are realized from mulberry paper which afterwards is finished with a bio-coating. This creates a strong material with an almost transparent glazed look. For the darker (walnut) shades I hand painted the paper with natural oils and inks, resulting in graphical variations, highlighting a variety of nuances of brown. Because of this handcrafted process every piece has its unique drawings. They become even more apparent when the light is turned on; a soft glow is filtered through the shade and creates a slumbering atmosphere. - The recycled cardboard profiles come from the packaging industry, normally used for protecting borders of larger shipments. At the end of the paper recycling cycle these profiles are often considered as single use, most of the time being damaged to protect the shipment. Here, on the other hand, I upscale them by reinforcing the surface with walnut ink and a bio certified lacquer. These monumental lights celebrate the versatility of paper by utilising paper of various life stages, considering its afterlife and transforming an everyday material into precious building components. It was truly wonderful to bring so many inspiring people together in one space, connecting emerging young Belgian talent with established artists and designers. Yesterday marked the closing of the Belgian Art and Design Affair 2026, also known as BADAFF 2026, and what an edition it was. We were truly overwhelmed by the incredible turnout during the vernissage, and even throughout the weekend the fair remained lively and full of energy. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited, supported us as a partner or took part. We are passionate about bringing art and design back to the beautiful city of Ghent. Being able to provide a platform for emerging Belgian talent while also engaging established galleries means a great deal to us, and without you, this love story would not be possible. We strive to create meaningful connections and to be a fair that feels accessible to everyone, without being too high of a threshold. And that is only possible because of your continued interest and support in art and design. We all know the world can feel uncertain these days, and beauty and love are often the first to fade, but choosing to seek out beauty and love is what truly matters now. All is full of love.
