Made a breakdown video of the Meregali x Jimenez match at the 2023 Pans. Im not focused on the end result nor really a play-by-play. A simple concept to doing really well in jiujitsu is to make your opponent play your jiujitsu. Another way to say it is to keep them defending or “running.” This video shows something that we’ve been working on leading up to Asian Open. The team took to it really well. Countering the pull is one way to take control of the tempo of the match but also it’s one the first things that can be done in a match. Try not to see guard pulls as something to survive but an opportunity to take advantage of the risk they are taking to come to you.

Remember, it’s not about hitting moves on your opponent, it’s their perception that they need to put out fires that completely takes them out of their game and into yours. So this means your tactics and strategy and NOT technique can be the determining factor on taking control and keeping it.

Starting something new can feel intimidating, but taking care of the basics helps everyone feel comfortable, safe, and ready to train. Here is your ultimate First Class Etiquette Checklist 💖👇
1️⃣ Trim those nails & wash up: Keep finger and toe nails trimmed short so you don’t accidentally scratch your training partners! Give your hands a good wash before practice 💅
2️⃣ Stay fresh: Hygiene is top priority when we’re training close! A quick shower and fresh scent go a long way 🚿✨
3️⃣ Mints & toothbrushes are your besties: Fresh breath makes partner drills much sweeter for everyone 🪥🌸
4️⃣ Ditch the jewelry: Rings, necklaces, earrings, and watches need to stay in your bag to prevent snagging or injuries 💍❌
5️⃣ Mat rules matter: ALWAYS wear shoes/sandals off the mat (especially in the bathroom!) and NEVER wear shoes on the mat 🚫👟
6️⃣ Wash your gear immediately: Toss your gi, rashguards, and spats straight into the wash after class so they stay fresh for next time 🧺🧼
