Inspired by a Buddhist legend, Rabindranath Tagore’s Chandalika follows Prakriti, a young woman marginalized by the caste system. Through an unexpected encounter with the monk Ananda, she begins a journey of self-discovery, dignity, and awakening. Tagore’s timeless narrative challenges social prejudice while affirming the inherent worth and humanity of every individual.

The performance was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from the audience. We were especially proud to hear praise for our students, whose dedication, artistry, and hard work shone through in every scene. Their ability to bring such a complex and meaningful work to life left a lasting impression on many who attended.
🪷
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this performance and to the artists, musicians, volunteers, and community members who helped bring this story to life. We are grateful for the opportunity to share these stories, nurture emerging artists, and help keep Bengali cultural arts traditions vibrant for future generations through BAFA.

Shubho Noboborsho! 🎉❤️💚

What a joy to celebrate Bangla New Year alongside the vibrant Bangladeshi community at BAFA’s Annual Boishakhi Parade! Our heritage, our language, and our diversity are what make New York truly beautiful.

Thank you to BAFA for always bringing our community together and keeping that spirit alive. Wishing everyone peace, pride, and prosperity in this new season! 🌸

শুভ নববর্ষ! 🎉❤️💚

🌸 by @bafa.usa

Stories of Us 🎨 The Paint & Golpo Workshop by BAFA created a safe space for intergenerational connection through shared activity and mediated conversation.

Over chai and samosas — staples of Bangladeshi gathering and hospitality — participants spent the afternoon painting, sharing vulnerable reflections on their lived experiences, and speaking on the inspirations behind their creations. Art served as a catalyst to bring forth stories which otherwise may have remained untold.

Thank you @stophatenyc and @nycchr for making this event possible. Community-based cultural programming serves as a preventative tool against hate by fostering dialogue, affirming identity, and strengthening social cohesion across generations.

Thank you @itiseyeris for facilitating this workshop with care and intention 🩷

Thank you to everyone who joined us and continue to support BAFA programs 🤍 by @bafa.usa
