Craft beer & food with Filipino soul 🇵🇭. A future third space for culture, connection, & community.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hi, I’m Kat - the dreamer behind Bahay Brewing

My journey started in Kuwait and the Philippines before moving to Los Angeles, where I spent most of my childhood. My parents taught me the value of hard work and resilience, encouraging me to pursue that “safe” corporate path.

So I did exactly that - graduated with a chemical engineering degree and moved to the Midwest for my corporate job. But here’s the thing: I’ve always loved craft beer. I discovered homebrewing in a college beer tasting class and brewed on and off throughout my corporate years. When I wasn’t at my 9-to-5, you’d find me at breweries, always chasing that next great beer.

After a decade in corporate, I made a BOLD move - I quit my job, moved to Dallas, and found work at a local brewery. I worked there for two years until I got pregnant and decided to focus on growing my family.

But after having two babies, the FOMO hit hard. Instead of going back to work for someone else, I thought... why not start my own brewery?

When I envisioned what this taproom would look like, it only made sense to draw from my own cultural experience. That’s how Bahay Brewing was born - where Filipino heritage meets craft beer. 🍺🇵🇭 taken in Dallas, Texas by @bahaybrewingco

“Bahay” means home in Tagalog, and that’s exactly what we want people to feel when they walk into this future taproom — like they’ve come home. The name honors the Filipino roots that shape everything we do, but it also reflects a deeper vision: to revive the idea of the “third space.” Decades ago, our grandparents had those in-between places — not work, not home, but spaces where life slowed down and connection came easy. Barbershops, local cafés, church steps, and front porches were where stories were shared, grief was eased, and community was built. Today, we’ve lost so much of that — traded for screens and silence. Bahay Brewing Co. is my way of bringing it back — a place to gather, to belong, and to feel at home 🏠🍺

Rain or shine, you showed up.

@lonestarpalengke was such a special day for us. Seeing people brave the rain, umbrellas in hand standing in line to support Bahay Brewing and all of the Filipino small businesses at Palengke — showed how strong our community is. It truly meant more than we can put into words.

More than anything, it was beautiful to be surrounded by so many people celebrating who we are, where we come from, and the traditions that continue to bring us together. Getting to experience that during Filipino American History Month made it even more meaningful.

Thank you for stopping by, trying our food and beer, sharing your kind words, and spending a very rainy Sunday with us. 🥹

Bahay means home in Tagalog. And this past weekend reminded us exactly why we’re building one.

Turon, but make it beer 🍺🍌

This one didn’t turn out exactly how I planned — the caramel and toffee from the malt completely took over, and the jackfruit barely made an appearance. But that’s kind of the point right now.

Before Bahay Brewing has an actual brick and mortar, I’m using this time to experiment in the kitchen — trying weird ideas, chasing Filipino flavors I grew up with, and yes, sometimes missing the mark. Every batch teaches me something. And getting to test these on friends and family, hear their honest reactions, and figure out what actually resonates before I’m serving it to the public - That’s invaluable.

Happy Philippine Independence Day 🇵🇭❤️💙💛

128 years of kalayaan. Of resilience. Of a culture so rich and vibrant it travels with us everywhere we go.

At Bahay Brewing, we believe craft beer can be a love letter to heritage. Every batch we make is inspired by the flavors, the spirit, and the community of the Filipino people. We brew with puso — and today, more than ever, that pride runs deep.

🍺 Mabuhay!

@kristinarodulfo said it so beautifully!!

Before we close out AAPI month, I wanted to share what meaningful representation (of my culture) looks like to me — because let’s be real an Ube Latte at a Starbucks isn’t cutting it for us Filipinos

Early this month, Bahay Brewing was part of the biggest Ube Festival in North Dallas. My original plan was just to pass out samples of beer… but I wanted to do so much more.

So I brewed beers inspired by Filipino flavors and turned my booth into a whole experience. I took that nostalgic feeling as kid buying snacks at a Sari Sari store — and brought it to life.

For those who don’t know, a Sari Sari store is the Filipino version of New York bodegas — they are tiny convenient stores that have everything you need.

To create my vision, I turned my old grain mill cart into a mini store front. I used my Cricut to make a custom beer menu signage, stocked it with Filipino snacks and seasonings from my local Asian grocery store to create that Sari Sari look.

AND Because I’m so extra I added a handwoven bag from the Philippines, and draped hop vines to tie in the craft beer vibe.

And y’all… I killed it!

The best part was finding a group of Amihan dancers. They performed the tinikling at the festival and I got them to hang out at my booth. Can I just say how much they really brought to life my vision??

SO If you asked me what AAPI month is to me. It was this entire experience. by @bahaybrewingco

I had this crazy idea:

What if Filipino flavors could be experienced through craft beer during the biggest Ube/AAPI Festival hosted by @scoopnbuns & @visitgarlandtx

Fast forward to this past weekend and somehow we ended up brewing THREE Filipino-inspired beers 🇵🇭🍺 alongside the incredible team at @intrinsic_bbq_brewing

This experience reminded me that representation can look like so many different things.

Sometimes it looks like traditional dance.
Sometimes it looks like food.
And sometimes…it looks like an ube stout 🍠💜🍺 being poured in the middle of Downtown Garland during AAPI Month

As someone building Bahay Brewing from the ground up, moments like this mean everything.

Not because “we made it”…
but because for the first time, this dream started feeling REAL.

More of the Ube Fest journey coming soon 🌞✨
