They said this disease takes everything. The ability to move. To speak. To breathe. And it took her Keith.
But grief is not the end of a woman like Alecia Bailey. It is the beginning.

Because when ALS took her husband, it did not take her fire. She gathered up her heartbreak, and instead of letting it bury her, she planted it. For more than ten years, she has watered that ground with love, with fight, with a refusal to let another family stand in the dark alone. She built the St. Augustine Walk to Defeat ALS from a hope into a movement. She has put equipment into shaking hands and resources into frightened homes. She has stood before lawmakers and made them listen. She turned her sorrow into someone else’s strength.

And this week, the ALS Association named our own Alecia Bailey a 2026 ALS Hero… their HIGHEST honor!!

Understand this, St. Augustine: a hero was never someone who never fell. A hero is the one who falls, and rises anyway, and reaches a hand back into the dark to lift the ones still lying there.
So now she is asking us for one thing. Not pity. Not applause. Just this: SHOW UP.

It’s that time of year when we ask you to jump onboard a cause that is near and dear to our hearts.
The Walk to Defeat ALS happens THIS Saturday - and it’s not too late to get involved!

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event that raises awareness, hope, funds education, increases community support, improves access to care and encourages advocacy for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

ALS is a tragic illness that robs people of the ability to walk, talk, and eventually breathe. We need your help to find a cure. Visit St. Augustine Walk to Defeat ALS to learn more and to register today!
