Just trust me, you’ll be fine ✨ is an understatement.

This gorgeous cottage kitchen garden was just finished and I LOVE the details. Tennessee limestone with a gorgeous fountain surrounded by in ground herbs (this was fave element - inspired by a trip to London), custom greenhouse with salvaged doors, and a special spot for a giant melon patch.

Also for the record: I have the BEST clients. This couple is shining light and we’re such a pleasure to get to know! Stoney stone and plant by plant we are all transforming the world with beauty and abundance, with nutritious food and a passion for living in deep authenticity. It may be ā€˜just a garden’ to some, but to those who get it, it’s everything.

Here’s some honest scoop:
🪻what you’re investing in when you build out a landscape, or create a beautiful kitchen garden is a feeling. Like a room in your home, it holds a purpose, and should also reflect how you want to exist when in the space - it should transport you.
🪻Most of our builds land somewhere around $23 - $33 per square foot. This is pea gravel, stone work, custom pieces, raised beds, borders, soil, etc.
Yes, this adds up. We’re priced to reflect taking on EVERY detail, quality materials, and creating something that will increase the value of your home and life.
🪻plan on your project costing 20% more than you think. It’s typically due to scope creep, which is you wanting more things added or a change in approach or materials.
🪻it doesn’t matter what you want, as long as it makes sense to you. The builder will have an opinion, the designer will have an opinion, and you’ll have a preference. Find people you trust - especially if you don’t love making decisions, but also: speak up for what you like. That’s all that matters.
🪻when you hire a designer, you’re hiring someone to configure something beautiful, but also to: translate your goals into physical existence, take on the mental load, manage the job, source and quote materials, offer you inspiration and examples, know way more about options and best practices. It’s also much more fun to tackle a project with a personality that you like, who can absorb the stress of the endeavor. You’ll be spending some time with this person - enjoy them or hire someone else.
🪻 A good team that has navigated ups and downs is better than a flawless crew that you don’t like, or that makes you feel bad or demanding. In the end, it’s how you were made to feel as a person that will stick with you.
🪻the most beautiful spaces you’ve experienced were created with wild and extreme deliberation. Every single detail has potential for beauty and function, but it will cost you.
🪻DIYing some of the build is a pain in the a**. For us and you. It rarely turns out as good, but can still be amazing. Plan on doing 3x the amount of work than you thought.

Day 2 and we’re learning about how the function of the hives is enhanced to be beautiful and live on as art. There’s a thickness the logs need to be, and there’s insulation in these thatched roofs. The roof themselves are very much @_beekindhives_ secret sauce (that I will not show you, sorry!) and could be different but are part of the sculpture, while also holding in heat.

This is an experience I didn’t even know to anticipate but fear is now over too quickly! Learning to make ā€œrocketā€ bee hives by master craftsman @_beekindhives_ and getting to experience it alongside the most beautiful group of people.
I had no idea what to expect and now we’re hoping to set up shop and get more of these made here in the US.

The setting can’t be matched at @patinameadow , the food could not be better @perennbakery and the company was second to none. Like Hogwarts, but you’re learning to make gorgeous structures that attract native bees (like magic really) and work to fix our ecosystem.
I’ll be recounting on Substack soon - follow along to see how the week unfolded šŸ by @baileyvantassel

Time to get a plan for Fall accessories in the garden. Hoops are most important and great to protect from pests that want your cool season seedlings. You can also use them for frost cloth as winter comes. Cloches are a go to as well, protecting from the late season panic that chipmunks and rabbits have. And rhubarb forcers, though an investment are a great thing to have ready. by @baileyvantassel

After many half-kept attempts at many journaling strategies, I got inspired by @paper_republic and found a way to create ONE cohesive system. An ecosystem, if you will.

The key is that I have three notebooks under one roof, a grid, lined, and blank notebook, with respective tasks.
I have a sweet little clip that holds the pages open, and stock the inner flap of my journal with stationary. Truly the magic of Paper Republic’s design, which is so simple, flexible, and elegant. I sought them out specifically for this reason.

I crave my habit tracking now and love to do daily check-ins, making sure all parts of my inner and outer world align. It’s like a little hug I can give myself.
There are a million ways to do this - but let me know if you have questions! The gardening system is particularly specific (as I’ve tried many things).

The always-stunning espalier. Here’s the scoop: you need to understand their purpose, how to support them, and if they self pollinate or need a companion. These are an investment, mostly if you buy them a few years old, though you can train them yourself.

Let me know your questions and maybe we’ll do a part 2 on this! by @baileyvantassel

A French potager that still reads Southern, and filled an empty space with function and timeless beauty.

This gorgeous garden has many details that make it more than just a vegetable garden, but also a space for entertaining, for contemplation, for togetherness, and for celebrating the seasons.

Some touches that make it unique are the urns inside our corner boxes, gorgeous arches adorned with acorns, espalier pear trees, and a small lean-to we’ll reveal soon, a potted herb table, and some boxwood and lavender hedges that line the beds.

This vision was designed by yours truly @baileyvantassel and built by @tnkitchengardens and her amazing team. This collaboration was a fun one with a lot of time onsite tweaking, working with slope, and iterating in real time.

Endless gratitude for the team and my stunning homeowners. They’re gorgeous inside and out! by @baileyvantassel

I love my @hoselinkusa so much that we install them at all our client properties too! She’s truly the star of the show when it comes to hoses that actually work and cover ground.
It extends 100 feet, easily retracts, is incredible durable, has all the water settings, and is super easy to install! Like, even I can do it.

I’m so excited to partner with #Hoselink to get you a discount too!! 2026Bailey to save šŸ’•šŸ¤ŒšŸ¼ and use the link in my bio to go straight to the model I have.
