The thing about moving in the summertime, and not just any summer, but the hottest summer that we have had on record ever, is that everything felt like a bad decision.

Not just the act of moving, but the physical labor of it all. The moment you woke up, you could smell the heat, the second you opened the door you were already exhausted.

You couldn’t air anything out.

You couldn’t get a breath of fresh air because there was no fresh air and outside felt like hell.

So again, nothing made sense in the dense heat and life felt out of order because maybe for a second it was. And boob sweat never helps.

So this morning in our new space that still very much feels new, but very much feels like we’ve known it for a lifetime—when the temperatures were cool I opened the windows to let the crisp air in—to fall over us and to take a deep breath to force these walls to feel a bit more like home.

I think it helped. Because there is always respite in fall. by @bailshenry

Don’t for a second think I’m intentional in my prayer life all the time. That’s why I do this challenge in my own home.

I’m busy, I’m distracted, I make excuses, and I so often do not prioritize my Faith. But if I have a deadline, I like those! 100 days of prayer started last night.

I woke up to 50 prayer requests and over half of them are for women to have a baby. A prayer I know so well.

The Lord God is an intentional Father, a good Father. Call on the Lord and He will hear you.

For arguments sake we don’t say the word “chore” too much around here. It sounds heavy and boring—and to teach our kids that helping is part of loving, and taking care of our stuff is important, we tell Sam when it’s time to “give big help”.

I taught Sam how to make a bed when he was 5.
He was bored, frustrated, and would cry a lot when I told him we take 3 minutes in the morning to set our day up for success.

He is now 7 and can make a pretty crisp bed.

He is proud as a peacock when his daddy hands him the weed-eater, and he loves to scrub tough stains out of pans.

Our boy struggled with confidence for a while, and ever since we’ve implemented weekly or daily ways for him to help and take care of our home, he has a confidence that we pray will stick with him.

I also feel like this is teaching a foundation for a “see it/fix it” mentality. We won’t raise weaponized incompetence in the Henry House 👏🏼

Pruning, and nature, and winter.

nature has been the biggest reminder on how to approach the seasons of life through the ultimate Gardener.

We had the most special morning celebrating our girl @kristen_ley & Baby Allen. Kristen will be the most fun and loving mother and she was surrounded by lifelong friends this morning as we showered her with goodies and well wishes.
