Happy birthday @ditavonteese!! A day early because I’m going off grid tomorrow but just wanted to wish the queen of burlesque, grace, glam and sparkle the happiest birthday with a picture of the cake I had the honor of making her earlier this year. In honor of the trillions of cicadas emerging in Georgia in the coming weeks, I was inspired to make one of my stained glass cakes with them as the star! Rest assured though I won’t be leaving the house when these guys show up, I like their imagery only 😂 Last time these two broods hatched at the same time was in the 1803 and Jefferson wrote about how the ground was crunchy. NOPE.
Anyway, hope you think the cake is cute! I was inspired by art noveau colors as always. Inside is chocolate cake with salted caramel.

I purchased an incredible luna moth piece by @wildflower.oddities and I just KNEW when it arrived that I HAD to cakeify it! This isn’t my first stunt with buttercream moths, but it is certainly my fave. Every single thing on this cake is made with buttercream (I have to specify that for the more newcomers that may think the flowers are real 😆). Swipe for different angles.
This won’t be the last piece I get from her, and maybe I’ll turn each one into cake!

Couldn’t decide between a spooky theme or autumnal theme for this week’s cake drop so: “porque no los dos”? 🖤
Cutie bats, skulls, black roses and fall leaves galore. The cake flavors this week were tiramisu and chai.

Spent two days making this special cake for Oskar, the kid of my lovely friends’ @mikelowerystudio and @katrinwiehle. I felt responsible for his new love for Legends of Zelda because my husband gave him Breath of the Wild for Christmas last year and now it’s his new favorite thing! We love a new video game nerd though.
I had made a guardian themed cake years ago for a client so I had some practice to go all out this time, LED lights and all!

Be my guest! And yes there is grey stuff, it’s delicious and it’s the black sesame buttercream inside these ube cakes inspired by the iconic Be Our Guest scene from Beauty and the Beast.

No I’m not a Disney adult but just happened to rewatch the movie a few weeks ago (the cartoon, not the sorry remake) and got inspired to recreate this set of cakes but in my own style!

The adorable edit in the first slide was collaged in Photoshop and animated in After Effects by my talented sis @natalieneto. Sadly can’t use the relevant audio to this due to this being a business account.

Absolutely no generative AI, not now, not ever. Just good old fashioned skills.

Swipe through for a treat! Did you know that 95% of my cakes are dreamed up from imagery that is completely non-cake related? Even when I use industry techniques like vintage piping or buttercream florals to achieve my designs, they are completely custom for my amazing clients who send me images they love. There’s an endless pool of inspiration out there, some seem impossible and will leave you stumped, but may we look outside of the cake feedback loop and create new things! I hope these few examples inspire you to try to find your voice.

I was bamboozled by an AI cake for the first time last week. I was so bummed and disgusted by it that I decided to one-up it instead of being mad. It was a teapot shaped cake in all pink, nothing a real person couldn’t do, which makes it even more pointless. I decided to make a REAL one in my style and voice. I collect teapots (I have dozens!) so I tried to make one that I’d love to have in real life. I’ve been wanting to make a teapot cake for a while and I also wanted to try a domed cake for a while. Many, birds, stones and all that.
Anyway, all this to say, I hate AI. If you use it, boooooooo. Use your hands and brain folks, don’t let convenience turn you to mush.
