On Tuesday 27 October I’ll be hosting an Open Studio at the State Library at 12.30pm. I’ll be talking about the research, ideas and artwork for my project ‘Intertidal’ produced during my State Library of Victoria Fellowship and Amor Residency at Baldessin Studios.

It’s been a wonderful year at the Library with so many incredible resources to delve into, with the help of kind and generous librarians, who assisted with locating historical archives and artworks I viewed in the heritage room. My Fellowship project ‘Intertidal’ explores the impact of climate change on intertidal zones on southern Australian reefs – with a focus on Port Phillip Bay and surrounding ocean shorelines. I spent time on the reefs, taking photographs and making camera-less photograms with plants and reef detritus.

The last part of the Fellowship has been the Amor Residency at Baldessin Studio, a bluestone building situated in bushland at St Andrews. Working with photographic material I’ve been printing a series of photogravure prints on a press with expert advice and assistance from Silvi, Tess, Nicole, August, Marcus & Elizabeth who encourage a friendly, thriving, printmaking community.

It has been two weeks since @sydneycontemporary
Wow, we are still recovering, what a week!

We are incredibly proud to have shared the work of George Baldessin alongside 53 talented printmakers to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand, admired the work and supported the Studio - it was wonderful to share our love of printmaking with you!

We would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to each of the 53 artists involved for donating their work to ensure our not-for-profit organisation can continue its work.

We would also like to thank all the volunteers and staff who helped prepare, transport and share the work in Sydney, this event would not have been possible without you.

To our fellow Works on Paper friends, colleagues and stand neighbours, thank you for a great week.

And of course, a huge thank you to all the team at @sydneycontemporary and @akkyvanogtrop who put on another fantastic fair making us feel so welcome and cared for.

Sooooo many techniques of printmaking are shown in the prints of the 53 artists on the Baldessin Studio wall this year! The closer I look, the more I appreciate…

Baldessin 25th portfolio sales here at Sydney Contemporary are going gangbusters, but there are absolutely still prints available!

The artists have generously donated a few prints from each edition to us to sell for our fundraiser. In some cases there are only three for sale per artist, so MOVE IT if you want to snag one that you love!!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

CELEBRATING 25 YEARS

As a studio run by artists, for artists, we understand the thrill and joy of pulling a print never fades.

We have delighted in sharing our knowledge and love of printmaking with the thousands of workshop participants and artists who have passed through our doors over the last 25 years and seen tens of thousands of prints pulled off our presses,

With a year-long program of workshops, masterclasses and residencies, there is something for everyone.

CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF PRINTMAKING

What an incredible journey it has been!! From reawakening George Baldessin’s original bluestone studio, to expanding our studio offerings, residencies and hosting events like the Printmakers’ Picnics and Open Studios, it has been a joy to share our love of printmaking with the community.

Curator @nicole_bowller recently retraced the rich history of our studio, writing an article that highlights just a few of the many millstones and achievements. Find a link to the digital issue of IMPRINT Winter 2026 in our bio.

CELEBRATING 25 YEARS AT SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY

This year is a momentous one for our studio marking
25 years as a not-for-profit, open access printmaking studio inspiring innovative printmaking.

To celebrate this milestone we have embarked on a very special project, The Baldessin Studio 25th Anniversary Print Collection. We’ve invited 53 members of our community to create an editionable print as both a celebration and as a fundraiser enabling us to share our love of printmaking into the future.

The collection launches September 3rd at @sydneycontemporary and online. Stay tuned to find out more!

A special ‘silver’ 25th anniversary exhibition will follow in Melbourne at @australiangalleries Nov 10-28, alongside a selection of George Baldessin’s incredible silver prints.

We can’t wait to share this exquisite collection with you. It has been a privilege to bring this project together over the last six months and we are indebted to the generosity of all our artists.
