Printmaking studio, art retreat & workshops in St Andrews, VIC.

On Tuesday 27 October I’ll be hosting an Open Studio at the State Library at 12.30pm. I’ll be talking about the research, ideas and artwork for my project ‘Intertidal’ produced during my State Library of Victoria Fellowship and Amor Residency at Baldessin Studios.

It’s been a wonderful year at the Library with so many incredible resources to delve into, with the help of kind and generous librarians, who assisted with locating historical archives and artworks I viewed in the heritage room. My Fellowship project ‘Intertidal’ explores the impact of climate change on intertidal zones on southern Australian reefs – with a focus on Port Phillip Bay and surrounding ocean shorelines. I spent time on the reefs, taking photographs and making camera-less photograms with plants and reef detritus.

The last part of the Fellowship has been the Amor Residency at Baldessin Studio, a bluestone building situated in bushland at St Andrews. Working with photographic material I’ve been printing a series of photogravure prints on a press with expert advice and assistance from Silvi, Tess, Nicole, August, Marcus & Elizabeth who encourage a friendly, thriving, printmaking community.

Prints from my new Stone As Flesh and Flower series. It’s great after a few days of printing to be able to lay them all out in the early morning @baldessinstudio sun. Excited that a selection of these will be exhibited in the @flinderslanegallery #explorations26 exhibition later in the year. #photgravure #contemporaryart #contemporaryprintmaking

I'm excited to share this lithographic print for the Baldessin Studio 25th Anniversary Print Collection.
Featuring work from 53 artists, the collection is currently showing at Sydney Contemporary (@sydneycontemporary).
Baldessin Studio is such a special place for me—and for so many printmakers across Australia and beyond. I’m honoured to be part of this incredible project.

Southern Moon, 2026
Lithograph
Edition of 10 + A/P printed by Jen Tarry-Smith at Salt Press (@saltpress_)
Image Size 46x38cm / Paper Size 46×38cm

The Southern moon moth (Dasypodia selenophora) is a nocturnal insect native to southeastern Australia. Unlike more reclusive forest species, they are drawn to artificial lights and frequently appear in urban areas. Encountering one feels like a sudden, quiet intrusion of the wild into the domestic, carrying the ancient imprint of the bush into modern human spaces.

This intersection of nature and human environment mirrors a pivotal shift in my own practice. During my 2017 State Library of Victoria Amor Residency at Baldessin Press, working on the historic press in the bushland setting fostered a symbiotic relationship with my surroundings, inspiring me to integrate environmental conservation work directly into my art practice.
