Of all that I am TONIGHT @busboysandpoets (5th & K), you’ll have a chance to get to know me better as a spoken word poet and vocalist!

You’ll learn things like:
Why @baldheadqueen?
“There’s Black people in Kansas?!”
And yes, I may even share about that time I chopped and snorted aspirin…😖😣😖

#Allegedly

Meet me at Busboys for 4th Wednesday open mic hosted by @charityjoyceblackwell!

Also, word to my millennial sister friend @eunique.d for helping this ol’ girl edit video for maximum exposure on Tik Tok 😩😂😩

The color of the season is GREEN! #

It’s official — I’m a 202Creates Resident!

I’m excited to share that I’ve been selected to join the 202Creates Residency Program! 🎉

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be connecting with fellow DC creatives, building my skills, gaining new resources, and continuing to grow as a creative entrepreneur.

As a writer, host, and performance poet, and vocalist, I’m looking forward to using this experience to bring stories alive - mine and yours!

Getting to join the 202Creates community during its 10th anniversary year makes this one even more special. 💚

Here’s to creating, learning, connecting, and seeing what comes next.

I’m officially part of the 202Creates family!

Speaking of light… 😏😌😇 …sexy is an energy…

While the words of @aneighthofcakes speaks to self-awareness, self-love and self-portraits (go see her page for those 😮‍💨), her words and production of Studio 8 at @gallery5arts in Richmond have created space for recollecting who we are within…

“I’ve been thinking about how often sensuality gets framed as something external — something tied to being desired, admired, or seen.

But sensuality can exist without an audience.

It can be the way you move through your own body. The feeling of fabric against your skin. A scent that shifts your mood. The quiet moment you catch your reflection and recognize yourself.

For me, sensuality is awareness: being present enough to notice what feels good, what feels beautiful, and what brings me back to myself.

Capturing self-portraits are part of that practice — a reminder that sensuality doesn’t have to be offered to anyone else to be real.

So I’d love to hear from you: when do you feel most connected to your own sensuality? What does it look or feel like in your life?

Share your perspective in the comments — there’s no wrong answer, and I’m genuinely curious.” - 📸 @aneighthofcakes, @onyxand8th

WHEW!? Last night’s Full Blood Moon and eclipse! Even with the clouds moving through the area, I was able to fully enjoy the experience!

One of my favorite field trips growing up was an annual trip to gaze at the galaxy at the Wichita Omnisphere, or Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchison.

When I moved to DC, with allll the cultural spaces and experiences within 10 miles of any school in the city, I quickly learned that teachers and students don’t have the same access to safely transport students that I had growing up. Field trips by METRO!? God bless our educators…!!!!!

Earlier this year I joined the board of @dccollaborative with a desire to expand the reach of their work - whether coordinating field trips, providing teaching artists for schools or collecting data about the impact of exposure to the arts here in DC.

As we close out #BlackPhilanthropyMonth and honor this #BlackGivingDay (8/28), I invite you to invest in DC Collaborative and invest in DC area youth!

Swipe to learn more and see our Executive Director, Alorie Clark, share the org’s amazing mission this morning on @abc7gmw!

What was your favorite field trip growing up? Share your memoirs and give today! ✨

Meet another one of our August 25 panelists!

Nina Ligon (@baldheadqueen) is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and cultural curator working across spoken word, vocal and stage performance, and community-centered engagement. She spent two decades driving up and down I-95 hitting every open mic and literary event she could, honing her craft as a vocalist and performance poet across the Mid-Atlantic, before making DC home in 2022 — where she went on to serve for two years as Director of Culture at Eaton DC.

She’s authored books and has served on boards of arts organizations. For nearly a decade she’s also worked as a benefit auctioneer and fundraising consultant, helping organizations generate funding for impactful programs.
As we explore The Gallery and Post-Gallery World, Nina brings the perspective of a performer and cultural curator - plus a unique view of where the fundraising money in this sector comes from.

Join us for an evening of conversation, ideas, and networking with creatives from across the DMV.

📍 liberation (n.)(v.) studios; gallery, 4113 Utah Ave, Brentwood MD - Tuesday, August 25, 6–8 PM - Registration is Free! RSVP link in bio

You can check out the other panelists here: Julia Bloom (@juliasbloom / @freightgallerydc ) Jason Bulluck (@jasonmbulluck )Mary Early (@maryearly / @hemphillartworks ) and Sami Miranda (@tres_raices_arts / @americanpoetrymuseum )
