Stuck in Traffic? Avoid These 5 Motorcycle Mistakes 😎👍

Some riding habits seem harmless, but in stop-and-go traffic, they can make your ride less safe. Here are 5 mistakes to avoid :

1. Using Too Much Front Brake at Very Low Speeds.

Sudden or aggressive front braking can upset your balance, especially when turning or maneuvering slowly. Use smooth braking. At walking speeds, the rear brake can help you control and stabilize the bike. Always keep the handlebars as straight as practical when braking firmly.

2. Using a Gear That’s Too High
Riding in a high gear at very low speeds can make your engine struggle, cause jerky movement, or even stall. Use a suitable lower gear to maintain smoother control and have power available when you need it.

3. Holding the Clutch Halfway for Too Long

Constantly slipping the clutch for extended periods can cause excessive heat and wear. Use the friction zone when necessary for slow-speed control, but release the clutch fully when conditions allow and avoid unnecessary slipping.

4. Following the Vehicle in Front Too Closely

Traffic can stop suddenly, especially in Bali, where scooters, cars, and pedestrians share the road. Leave enough space to react and brake smoothly. Remember, the vehicle in front isn’t the only thing you need to watch.

5. Constantly Switching Between the Throttle and Brakes

Abruptly accelerating and braking makes your riding less smooth and can reduce your reaction time. Look ahead, anticipate traffic, maintain a steady pace when possible, and slow down early instead of reacting at the last second.

Good riding isn’t just about moving forward. It’s about staying balanced, anticipating danger, and making smooth decisions.

Why 2 fingers on the brake can be better than 4 fingers 😈

1. Better throttle control
With 2 fingers on the brake, your other fingers stay on the throttle, giving you better control of your inputs.

2. Faster reaction
Your fingers are already covering the brake lever, so you don’t need to move your whole hand before braking.

3. Less accidental throttle input
Keeping part of your hand on the throttle can help you manage throttle input more precisely while braking.

4. More control in corners
Two-finger coverage allows you to maintain throttle control while applying the brake smoothly when needed.

5. More braking force ≠ better braking.
Four fingers give you more leverage, but braking is about control, not maximum force. You need enough braking force to slow the bike, not simply as much as possible.

5 things you should never do when riding downhill ⚠️

Going downhill looks easy, but the wrong technique can make you lose control 😥

1. Holding the clutch
This removes the engine braking and makes the bike roll faster. Instead, release the clutch and let the engine help control your speed.

2. Using a gear that’s too high
Riding downhill in 4th or 5th gear gives you less engine braking. Instead, shift into a lower gear to get more engine braking.

3. Using only one brake
This puts too much pressure on one brake. Instead, use both front and rear brakes smoothly.

4. Going downhill too fast
Don’t wait until you’re already going too fast to brake. Instead, slow down before entering the steep section.

5. Shifting down too late
If you wait too long to downshift, controlling your speed becomes harder. Instead, choose the right gear before the bike gains too much speed.

💡Good motorcycle riding is not only about going fast. Knowing how to control your speed is just as important.

Many motorcycle riders often overlook these things, thinking they’re normal and won’t cause any problems.

These 5 Things You Need to Avoid When Riding a Motorcycle 😎👍

1. Entering a Turn Too Fast
Even experienced riders can carry too much speed into a corner.

💡Slow down before the turn.

2. Braking While Leaned Over
Hard braking while the bike is leaning can upset the bike’s stability.

💡Brake before the turn whenever possible.

3. Looking at the Obstacle
Your bike tends to follow where you look.

💡Look where you want to go.

4. Turning the Handlebars Too Much at Low Speed
Oversteering can make the bike unstable, especially during U-turns and tight corners.

💡Use smooth, controlled steering.

5. Riding Faster Than Your Visibility Allows
If you can’t see what’s ahead, you may not have enough time to react.

💡Slow down when your view is limited.

"Manual is more fun 😛"

"Learn manual first. Then you’ll automatically know how to ride a scooter 😝"

“Manual is tiring 🤪”

Okay… but who actually said that? 😂

A manual bike can be fun.
A scooter can be fun too.

Learning manual first doesn’t magically make you a good scooter rider.

And riding a scooter doesn’t mean you’re a “less skilled” rider.

They’re different bikes, with different techniques, different habits, and different challenges.

So stop asking:
“Which one is better?”

Ask yourself:
“Which one do I actually want to ride?” 😎

Because being a good rider isn’t about riding the “cooler” bike. It’s about knowing what you’re doing when you’re on it.

These 5 things that make riding feel much smoother 😎👍

Small techniques can make a BIG difference when you’re learning to ride.

1. Release the brake progressively
As you slow down, gradually release the brake pressure instead of letting go suddenly. This helps keep the motorcycle stable and makes your braking feel smoother.

2. Roll off the throttle before braking
Reduce the throttle first, then apply the brakes. This allows the engine braking to help slow the motorcycle, giving you better control.

3. Brake before the corner
Do most of your braking before entering a turn. Once you’re in the corner, focus on maintaining a smooth and controlled speed.

4. Look where you want to go
Don’t stare at the obstacle or the edge of the road. Look through the turn and toward where you want the motorcycle to go.

5. Keep your inputs smooth
Avoid sudden movements with the throttle, brakes, clutch, or handlebars. Smooth inputs = better stability and control.

These may seem like small details, but mastering them can make your riding feel much smoother, more controlled, and more confident.

Smooth riding isn’t about going fast.
It’s about being in control 😁

Save this for your next ride

Falling off isn’t always about speed. Often, it’s a small mistake at the wrong moment, especially when you’re still learning how the bike responds 🙃

Here are 5 things that can make you fall off your motorcycle :

1. Braking hard while turning
Heavy braking while leaned over uses up tire grip, especially at the front. Releasing the brake suddenly can also upset the bike.

💡Better: Do most of your braking before the turn. Once stable, keep a smooth throttle through the corner.

2. Braking while holding the throttle
This often happens in panic situations. Throttle and braking together can make speed control less predictable.

💡Better: Roll off the throttle first, then apply the brakes smoothly. Use clear, controlled inputs.

3. Looking down when nervous
Riders often look at the curb, the ground, or the obstacle they want to avoid. The bike can naturally follow your gaze.

💡Better: Keep your eyes up and look toward the open space you want to ride through.

4. Using too much throttle while turning
A sudden throttle input while leaned over can make the bike accelerate or run wide, especially during tight turns.

💡Better: Set your speed before the turn, then use gentle, steady throttle.

5. Putting your foot down too early
Putting a foot down while the bike is still moving quickly or leaning can cause a loss of balance.

💡Better: Slow down under control, keep the bike upright, and put your foot down only as you come to a stop.

Notes from @balibikeschool :
Safe riding isn’t about never making mistakes. It’s about understanding how the motorcycle reacts and keeping your inputs smooth, predictable, and controlled.

Ride safe. Ride smart. Ride with Bali Bike School

Save this for your next ride and share it with someone who’s still learning.

5 Riding Skills Most Beginners Struggle With 👀

These skills might look simple, but they’re actually where you can really see the difference between a beginner and an experienced rider.

1. Smooth Emergency Braking
Most beginners panic when they need to brake suddenly.
Experienced riders can brake firmly while keeping the bike stable and under control.

2. Low-Speed Control
Most beginners struggle to keep the bike balanced at very low speeds.
Experienced riders can move slowly and smoothly without constantly putting their feet down.

3. Smooth Throttle Control
Most beginners tend to give too much or too little throttle, especially when turning or going uphill.
Experienced riders can make small, precise throttle adjustments to keep the bike smooth and predictable.

4. Tight U-Turns
Most beginners feel nervous when making a tight U-turn and often use too much speed or put their feet down.
Experienced riders can control their speed, balance, and steering while keeping their eyes where they want to go.

5. Hill Starts
Most beginners struggle to start smoothly on a hill without rolling backwards or giving too much throttle.
Experienced riders can control the bike calmly and confidently, even on a steep incline.

The goal isn’t to ride faster.
It’s to have better control 😎👍

How many of these can you do confidently? 👀

5 Beginner Riding Mistakes We See All the Time 😵

1. Gripping the throttle too tightly
Many beginners hold the throttle with their whole hand and keep their wrist too flat. Instead, keep your wrist slightly forward and control the throttle mainly with the thumb and the base of your palm. This helps you make smoother, more controlled throttle inputs.

2. Keeping your elbows too bent or too straight
Your arms shouldn’t be locked straight, but they shouldn’t be too bent either. Keep your elbows slightly bent and relaxed so you can absorb movement and steer smoothly.

3. Looking down instead of looking ahead
Beginners often look at the front wheel or directly at the road in front of them. Look where you want to go, especially when turning. Your bike naturally follows your line of vision.

4. Using the throttle and brake at the same time
When they feel nervous, beginners often hold the throttle while braking. This can make the bike feel less predictable. Release the throttle before braking and keep your inputs smooth.

5. Releasing the brake too quickly
Suddenly letting go of the brake can make the bike feel unstable. Release the brake smoothly and gradually to keep the bike balanced and under control.
