Time flies! It has been more than two years since "Battered Comfort - no matter how hard i pound i will not become that rice cake" premiered in Stedelijk and it took me this long and a rainy Friday to upload these pictures.

In Battered Comfort, my sister and I batter rice with hammers until it turns into ‘tteok’ 떡 (rice cake) which we eat together with the audience. Eating tteok is a communal act and generates belonging, whereas battering it is violent and creates pressure. By pounding on the individual, society is formed, like rice cake is pounded into tteok. Nevertheless, tteok is all about sharing : through violence a sense of belonging and comfort is created.
Both belonging and pressure exist in the same space and require each other.

(Hammering also serves as a catharsis for my struggle of belonging into Korean culture. As a German-Korean it is difficult to fit into my mother's country.
No matter how hard I pound I will not become that rice cake. )

☁️Drifting Clouds is our latest project: a series of six installations created for @draaimolen_

Inspired by the physics of wave movement, “Drifting Clouds” brings this natural phenomenon to life as six sculptures scattered like clouds across the landscape.

A huge thanks to @raul_aguileraa and @marcolinoc2 for connecting these installations to a server and enabling internet control.

Grateful to @annelieke.rovers and @tharimcornelisse for inviting us to showcase our work at Draaimolen 2024 for the second year in a row.

And special thanks to @balmingkatti for being the best design partner🙏

It all started from a dream, a stroll into the wasteland and the need to create new bridges. Welcome to this artificial park. Our constructed landscape to protect and cherish. Constantly in progress. Where rivers flow from taps, trees grow from planks and weeds draw the sky.
Here we invent our own nature. Breathe life into static materials. Nurture the old to flourish the new. We dig deeper to see further.
Listen to the resonating wave that keeps us going and alter it with your gesture to our Fallow Land.
