A little NIMAs reflection through the moments captured behind the scenes 🖤📸 @scart.au

Most people see what happens on stage. These photos capture a little of what it takes behind it.

The bump in, rehearsals, changeovers, problem solving, being gig fit, watching the clock, and those moments side stage when everything you’ve been working towards finally comes together.

After five years Stage Managing the NIMAs, it’s still incredibly special to stand side stage on Larrakia Country and watch our artists, culture and stories take over the stage and captivate an audience.

Creating space for more First Nations crew to be part of the teams that make these events happen is exactly why Balya exists.

We don’t just belong on the stage. We belong behind it too.

Proud of our crew. Proud of the work. Proud to keep creating pathways behind the scenes. taken in Larrakia Country by @balyaproductions

"We can't be what we can't see."

NEW INTERVIEW

Check out One of One's latest interview with stage manager, tour manager and Director of Balya Productions, Letisha Ackland.

Letisha is a proud Kokatha, Wirangu and Mirning woman from Ceduna on the Far West Coast of South Australia, now based on Kaurna Yerta. After studying at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music, she discovered her passion lay behind the scenes, and over eighteen years has built a career spanning live music, touring, festivals and major events across the country.

Noticing the absence of First Nations people, particularly women, in technical and production roles, she founded @balyaproductions , a First Nations-led production company dedicated to creating real employment pathways for the next generation.

In this interview, Letisha speaks about workforce sustainability, what it has meant to navigate spaces where she was often the only Aboriginal person, the only woman, or both in the room, and why resilience is built through community, not in spite of it.

With Balya Productions recently launching a First Nations Music Workforce Development Program in partnership with @music.aus and @apraamcos , this @naidocweek , celebrating 50 Years of Deadly, feels like the perfect moment to spotlight the work she is doing to ensure the industry reflects the full breadth of who we are.
