60 years, proudly represented!

One of the standout moments of the 2026 National Youth Parade saw the participating bands form the number 60 and the Broken Trident on the field at Kensington Oval, commemorating Barbados’ 60th Anniversary of Independence.

The Barbados Landship Association also brought colour and culture to the parade with a special presentation featuring traditional movement, dance and elements of Barbadian heritage.

The musical presentation featured the Barbados Cadet Corps Band, the Seventh Day Adventist Pathfinders Band, and the Barbados YouthADVANCE Corps Band, augmented by the St. Leonard’s Boys’ School Pan Orchestra and Drum Corps.

The presentation also paid tribute to the late Sir Emile Straker, with selections from his music featured throughout the display. by @barbadoscadetcorps

Highlights - Merchant Marine Memorial 💐🚢 - Last Sunday, the Barbados Cadet Corps hosted the annual Merchant Marines Memorial Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Barbados Military Cemetery. This solemn occasion paid tribute to the brave men and women of the Merchant Navy who risked, and often gave their lives, to keep global supply lines moving during the First and Second World Wars. The principal guest was Mr Diston Howell, a former Merchant Marine.

During the First and Second World Wars, the Merchant Marines, also known as the Merchant Navy, consisted of a nation's fleet of merchant vessels used to transport goods and passengers. These ships, including container ships, bulk carriers, and ferries, were operated by merchant mariners who ensured the safe and timely delivery of cargo, passengers, and the vessels themselves.

✨️Highlight: Commandant’s Parade 2026✨️ (Part 2)

The Barbados Cadet Corps brought its 2026 Annual Summer Camp to a close with the Commandant’s Parade, held at Paragon Base on Saturday, 29 August 2026.

The parade marked Major John Morodore’s first address to the Corps as Commandant. In his address, he reminded cadets that “wearing a rank does not automatically make someone a leader,” emphasising that true leadership is demonstrated through character, conduct and the example one sets.

The Commandant also shared his vision for reimagining the Barbados Cadet Corps while preserving its history and traditions, as the Corps continues to prepare cadets for the future.

The evening also recognised the achievements and contributions of cadets throughout Summer Camp 2026.
